Overall this is great news. Well done!!
Why? So many people enjoy the VR experience in Worlds. I don't know anyone that is interested in playing on mobile.
Defiantly not interested on mobile play. First off, it's not 3d. It's not immersive, it's small. And it's very hard to navigate, I've tried it. I'm really hating this change. What's it hurting to keep it available?

I absolutely agree I believe they are making a huge, huge mistake, and I'd wager they're going to lose active users.
They never learned how to charge you for it. Thats why.
Redwizardmatt You have hit the nail on the head there. The best one line explanation yet. Multinational corporations who must keep their shareholders happy are not charitable organisations. The goal is to make money. Not only could they not effectively charge for it, they were bleeding money supporting it. At least they're going to keep existing VR worlds available in a separate app, though how long it will last is debatable.
What — this is terrible news!! You obviously are not playing anything in Worlds. Kaiju Evolution has so many people playing it, that I, for the life of me, cannot understand how they cannot create a business model around it. Terrible, absolutely terrible news from Meta.
Meta was single-handedly the best and worst thing for consumer VR. They made it affordable for the masses, tried marketing it as a kid's toy, and then gave up. They never figured out how to run a successful game platform. I'm surprised they didn't partner with Microsoft to re-release Windows Phone OS and move Worlds to a Windows Phone thing.
On the plus side, there are certain KE players that invested their life into cheating to put 3 accounts on the top 10 leaderboard. I wonder how they will cope with the loss of their meaning for existence.
^ yes, still largely "marketed as a kid's toy" when it can be so much more than that! - I made the "Alexandria Bookstore for Intelligent conversation" as a kind of alternative to Soapstone and the rest, but they never promoted it or featured on the start page! so many users never even knew it existed.
Why is this great news?
It's getting back to the roots of the Oculus. A VR gaming platform without the unnecessary fluff. That's why.
Im disabled. I use my vr headset specifically to have the kinds of interactions I cant have in real life. Meta quest worlds allows me to go out, meet new people, explore, watch a concert or two, and generally feel less disabled. For people like me horizon worlds is the only reason to own your headset. Just saying.
