Overall this is great news. Well done!!
Why? So many people enjoy the VR experience in Worlds. I don't know anyone that is interested in playing on mobile.

Defiantly not interested on mobile play. First off, it's not 3d. It's not immersive, it's small. And it's very hard to navigate, I've tried it. I'm really hating this change. What's it hurting to keep it available?

They changed their mind........ already existing worlds will be available in vr.

Hurting the profit margin. Theyre keeping some areas going for a while anyway.

I absolutely agree I believe they are making a huge, huge mistake, and I'd wager they're going to lose active users.

They never learned how to charge you for it. Thats why.

Redwizardmatt You have hit the nail on the head there. The best one line explanation yet. Multinational corporations who must keep their shareholders happy are not charitable organisations. The goal is to make money. Not only could they not effectively charge for it, they were bleeding money supporting it. At least they're going to keep existing VR worlds available in a separate app, though how long it will last is debatable.

The problems with that are multitudes. Legacy software needs updates to work on later OS builds. Unfinished worlds wont be finished. Worlds that survive by changing, like seasonals, die instantly. User drop off starts imediately. Which they can then point to as justification for killing it completely down the line.
We are living in an age where technology companies make stupid investments based on false promises that they later break. If we the public believed for one second that these people earned the right to hording all our societies resources by being smarter than us, then recent years shattered that illusion. Anyone who knows how ai works knows that ai is losing billions every year and is only kept afloat by massive injections of investment capital. Most ai companies, like Amazon, struggle to find a way to charge you for a sub par ai product while bleeding billions. Most of this years big ai companies will be bankrupt in three years or less from now. And yet these people still keep investing in ai anyway because they arent very smart. The only way to monitize most ai is to use it to harvest your data and sell that to brokers. Even doing that, and cramming ads down your throat, and charging a premium tier fee, Amazon reports record losses every year for its ai division. None of them are profitable, and the only ones that can be are small scale or nieche prodcuts. Like if you made an ai for the medical profession only used by professionals and vetted by the medical associations. You could charge a FORTUNE for that, and it would actually do its job and be profitable. But these guys arent smart enough to think that way. They all just copy eachother. They dont deserve to be the ones making choices if they consistently make the same poor choices as one another. But. Thats our system. Their parent companies will borrow money under shell companies that can file bankruptcy when it fails, and the only people hurt will be we the people. Never them. Anyone think that shouldnt be legal? Heck. There was that ceo who tried to use ai to help him cheat the developers of Subnautica of 250 million dollars he owed them. These guys not only arent competent, but theyre corrupt. Its about money and power and no morals, guard rails, accountability, or promises kept. For once Id like to see a company say "we promised you X Y Z, and thats what we are going to do, even if it hurts us, because we DID promise you and we keep our word". A little integrity.

Also, as a long time VR player / builder I have to say: The Mobile and Desktop players? Are "not ready for prime time"! clunky, limited, hard to learn. They should keep the "triple platform" of VR, PC game, mobile game - it's great to access the same worlds from all three! (and note that Roblox does have that trio! although you can't build? in VR or mobile)

I've heard a lot of people say that mobile Worlds is not great. To be honest I think they'll kill that too before long, just letting people down gently maybe.
