Getting started with meta glasses app development
Hello there!
I've been developing apps since 2010, windows web and Android. I'm interested in getting started with meta glasses app development and wondering what's the best place to start.
Which IDE and programming languages does it use? Any links? Could I use an emulator for testing or would I have to purchases glasses?
Is there a development kit available that includes glasses with developer mode available?
Thank you!

Meta (formerly Facebook) offers smart glasses like the Meta Quest Pro and Ray-Ban Stories, which open exciting opportunities for augmented reality (AR) and wearable Messaging App Development. If you want to start building apps for Meta Glasses, here’s a simple guide:
Understand the Device and Platform
Meta Glasses typically run on a customized OS and integrate tightly with Meta’s ecosystem (like Horizon Worlds or Spark AR).
Decide which type of glasses you want to develop for: AR smart glasses (like Ray-Ban Stories) or mixed reality headsets (like Quest Pro).
Set Up Your Development Environment
For Meta Quest Pro (mixed reality headset):
Use Unity or Unreal Engine, the two primary game engines supporting Meta Quest development.
Install the Meta XR Plugin for Unity or the Meta Quest SDK for Unreal.
Download the Meta Quest Developer Hub to manage devices and builds.
For Ray-Ban Stories (camera glasses):
Development options are more limited, mostly focused on media capture and sharing.
Use Spark AR Studio to create AR effects compatible with Meta platforms.

Get the Required Tools
Meta Quest Pro:
Unity (recommended version compatible with Meta XR Plugin)
Meta Quest SDK (available on Meta’s developer website or GitHub)
Android SDK and NDK (for building APKs)
Meta Ray-Ban Stories:
Spark AR Studio (for AR effects)
Access to Meta’s developer portal for publishing
Learn the Development Basics
Explore sample projects and tutorials on the official Meta developer website:
Meta for Developers
Oculus Developer Center
Get familiar with hand tracking, spatial audio, and environment mapping for immersive experiences.
Experiment with Unity’s XR Interaction Toolkit for building AR/VR interactions.
Test on Real Devices
Register as a Meta developer to unlock device testing features.
Use Meta Quest Developer Hub or USB debugging to deploy your app to your glasses.
Test your app rigorously for performance and user comfort.
Publish and Share Your App
Follow Meta’s guidelines for app submission.
Submit your app through the Meta App Lab or Oculus Store for Quest apps.
For AR effects, publish via Spark AR Hub.
Helpful Tips
Join Meta developer forums and communities for support and updates.
Keep up with Meta’s announcements—they regularly release new SDKs and tools.
Focus on user experience: wearable apps need to be lightweight and intuitive.

Hi guys,
For my case, I tried using 3D glasses with Xbox, and it worked pretty well! But I’m curious — does this setup work with other devices too, especially ones with high DVR or 4K support?
Anyone tested it with Smart TVs, PC monitors, or even media boxes?Would love to hear your experience!
