Any update on 2026 competitions after budget changes?

Hey everyone,

With the recent news about Meta potentially reducing the metaverse / Reality Labs budget by around 30%, I wanted to ask if there’s been any update or guidance on what that means for Horizon Worlds and future creator competitions.

The recent “What You Missed This Quarter” post felt very optimistic about 2026, but I’m curious whether plans like creator competitions and MHCP incentives are still on track, scaled back, or being reworked.

Not trying to start rumors — just hoping for clarity so creators can plan wisely for 2026.

If anyone from the team can share even a high-level update, it would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks!

  • I think that it's important to note that Meta responded to these news stories by confirming that some of Reality Labs's budget will be reorganized, with some VR headset budget being transferred to AI glasses in 2026. Subsequently some internal memos were leaked implying that VR headsets previously planned for release in 2026 will be postponed to subsequent years.

On the other hand, Meta did not confirm any budget cuts for Reality Labs. Both Zuckerberg and Bosworth mentioned Horizon Worlds at Connect and highlighted the new Horizon Engine.

So currently the situation is not that clear. Many of the media outlets claiming that Horizon Worlds will get cuts have been attacking Horizon Worlds for years. In general, the AI-obsessed business press have long criticized VR investment without affecting Zuckerberg's support for it.
