Can't get emission to show.

I'm importing a model that I made an emissive map for but its not showing it.

I baked emission into a new image.

Opened photoshop and added my emission map to green channel.

Added ambient occlusion to blue channel

And made the red channel black.

Exported that as _MEO

Imported it with the model snd the BR file

It's not making much of a difference.

Is there anything else I need to do?

  • What works for me is to have a material named Material in Blender and two PNG files Material_BR.png and Material_MEO.png that I load along with the fbx mesh.

Material_BR.png has the color in the usual RGB channels and the roughness value in the alpha channel.

Material_MEO.png has metallicity in red, emission in green and I don't remember what in blue.

Keep in mind that emissive textures don't actually cast light. They just look like they are glowing. You need to add light gizmos to get light.

If you also need to set alpha there is a way to add that to the mix but it is slightly more complicated.

  • When I really want something to look lighted I combine an emissive material with a static or dynamic lighting gizmo.

  • Hey there!

It sounds like you're doing all the right things and I know that can definitely be frustrating when it doesn't work as hoped.

So I can better understand what you mean, can you clarify when you say "It's not making much of a difference"? As far as I know, the emissive properties in Horizon don't so much emit light as they make they object simply appear to be emissive. The visuals of this are more in line with the 'Unlit' material in Horizon.

Maybe I'm just confused on how to do it correctly. Can you tell me the correct way to import an emissive object? I have a circle that will go on the ground but it will look like its glowing light blue. Whats the proper way to import it?
