Response from Google AI:
Backing up your Horizon Worlds maps can be done directly within the app (in VR or Desktop) by creating manual backups, or by using the Duplicate feature to create a copy.
Method 1: Creating Manual Backups (Recommended)
This method saves a specific version of your world that you can restore later.
- Enter your world in "Edit" mode.
- Open the Build menu (pull down on the right joystick).
- Open the CUI (context menu button on left joystick) and select the World tab.
- Navigate to the Backups section.
- Select Save Backup and give it a title and description.
Method 2: Duplicating the World
Creating a duplicate creates a completely separate copy of the world, which serves as a safe backup.
- Go to your Personal Menu.
- Select the Create icon.
- Select Drafts and find the world you want to back up.
- Select the Three Dot icon on the world's thumbnail.
- Select Duplicate.
Method 3: Managing Backups via Desktop
If you are using the desktop editor via Meta Quest Link, you can manage backups more easily.
- Open Meta Horizon Worlds on your PC.
- Click the My Worlds tab in the left navigation bar.
- Click the three dots next to your world and choose Backups.
- You can view, rename, and restore previous backups from this menu.
Important Notes
- Automatic Cloud Backups: Horizon Worlds automatically backs up data to the cloud at regular intervals.
- Asset Export: If you need to back up specific objects rather than the whole world, you can export assets to an FBX file in the Desktop Editor, which can be used in tools like Blender or Maya.
- Script Backup: If you are using "file-backed scripts" in VR, you can duplicate scripts directly in the Asset menu.
