Its not hard to notify us!
I wanted to share some feedback on the developer experience, especially regarding the VScode toolchain. I've spent the entire weekend struggling with extremely slow and often failing compilations.
As a hobbyist creator, my weekend time is the only dedicated time I have to build. To lose that entire window not to a bug in my own code, but to chasing what turned out to be instability in the development tools, is incredibly disheartening.
We're often reminded as creators to put the user-first and fix bad UX as quickly as possible. I think it's fair to apply that same principle to the developer experience (DX). For us, the tools are the user experience. Right now, that experience is causing a huge amount of friction.
What makes this more concerning is the contrast with the new in-world GenAI features. It's been noted that the GenAI scripting seems to compile and even debug its own code without these issues. This creates a legitimate concern that the foundational VScode toolchain, which is essential for complex projects, is being overlooked in the push for new AI features. It's crucial that both workflows are treated as first-class, fully supported development paths.
The most challenging part of this is the lack of communication. When the tools are unstable and there's no official word, we're left to second-guess ourselves, assuming the fault is with our own scripts. It leads to hours of wasted time debugging perfectly good code and, frankly, it erodes confidence.
I'm posting this to ask: Is anyone else experiencing these severe VScode compilation issues? And to the Meta team, can we please get some acknowledgment of the problem and an update on the stability of the development environment? Clear communication would go a long way in helping us manage our time and expectations.
Hey!
It is quite possible our teams were unaware of any issues with VScode running slowly. If possible, can you submit a feedback report directly from the Desktop Editor or Submit a ticket to Zendesk?
Thank you for the post!
