Hey there... Will? Right? I can't remember since I can no longer read your name on Discord.
But hey, MisterOsiris,
I wanted to share some thoughts before I focus on something else. I only wish to share as it might help spark lead to a new original idea.
I've noticed growing support for creating worlds. What's working well is the flexibility of the tools and the community's creativity. What could be improved is faster access to solutions for editor-specific issues; perhaps a dedicated, searchable knowledge base could help.
The Meta Horizon Creator Program fosters a sense of community through its Discord server, forums, and events, allowing creators to connect, share feedback, and collaborate. This is amazing as it's a major source of inspiration and practical help.
Hands on resources resonate most with the creators I've met, including myself. More workshops or live Q&A sessions with experienced creators or Meta developers could help troubleshoot issues in real-time.
I believe Meta could create incentives or even offer positions for creators to produce more tutorial videos to upload here or on YouTube; this would go a long way. I've learned a lot from creators who take the time to share learning tutorials online. It might be an interesting idea to have an in-house team focused on common game mechanics, coding, and similar topics. These videos could be posted within the Meta Horizon Creator Program community or online for the general public to continue inspiring future creators.
From what I can see, Meta Horizon last posted tutorials on their YouTube channel two years ago. I'm assuming this was dedicated to current, new, and untapped world builders. With Meta aiming to grow, especially this year, it might be worth revisiting "consistent" video series focused on tutorials, common mistakes/issues, and coding. Many of us creators are willing to learn on our own, search the web, ask other creators for help, or pay for services. However, I'm sure there are others who work differently, especially those who haven't joined the community yet. They should be shown consistently how easy it can be to build a playable environment as first-timers, with some videos troubleshooting common issues to expedite their entry into game and world development. Also having someone or a team teaching consistently in video that can be rewind and played back can make others feel more inclined to learn. Some people I know, including myself and children, some learn better when they feel there is someone there guiding them, even if just a voice.
Most players within Meta Horizon are young and growing. With Meta thinking of the future, these children are playing on one of the first affordable headsets; they are growing up with this technology. Let's show and inspire them—"the public"—more about creativity, new possibilities for creative endeavors, and tell them it's easier than one thinks; keep showing them how. More creators might mean more players, and more player can lead to more creators. Also, just a thought, remind people that Meta Horizon incorporates more than just "game development" talent. People who draw can have their art placed in a world; people who sing and make music can be placed within a world. Voice actors, set designers, writers—Meta should consider pushing further with other creators and their art forms. Every filmmaker, singer, graphic designer, actor, etc., can play a role within Meta Horizon's "Entertainment Industry." Emphasizing the continued execution of all forms of artists and their art can lead to an expansion of creators and players and even spark interest. This all should tie back to MHCP. I spent 3.5 years focused on film entertainment. I'll tell you, I never thought my work as a filmmaker, entertainer, or producer would be just as valuable in game building or world building. But it is. I don't believe others who haven't dipped their toes into Meta's VR realize that.
Quick side note, too—maybe not related, but I figured I'd share. It would be really amazing if Best Buy had a more hands-on play area with the Meta Quest, allowing people to truly experience playability on the Quest instead of just watching a video; it might tickle their fun bone. Advertise the MHCP more, advertise potential growth for all artists and their art— we all are aware and also know this, the more players inside Meta Horizon will help grow the members in MHCP, which will further develop our experience and journey within the MHCP.
I hope some of this helps in anyway, thanks for asking the question. I really should be eating lunch though, so until next time 🙂
Cheers!
