Low poly Gen AI models

More of a feature request than a question: I try to use low poly models and simple textures in my worlds to improve performance. I notice that Gen AI 3D models and model textures tend to have a lot of detail. And if I try my best to get Gen AI to generate low poly models the result is not great.

Would it be possible to have a low poly option for Gen AI models? Perhaps something that can be generated by simple extrudes, insets etc ?

  • Since there doesn't seem to be a way currently to use Gen AI to generate decent low poly models, what I've been doing is using Gen AI to generate prototype models and then manually recreate my preferred version in Blender as a low poly model. Here's a quick example. Still tweaking the low poly version.

It's hard to tell in this picture but the AI model looks weirdly distorted close up (even in mobile). The low poly version is clean albeit cartoony. One day perhaps we'll have something in between.

Typically the low poly model is less than a tenth the size of the AI model.

Have you tried using the new style reference feature? While it won't generate a true low poly model, you may be able to replicate the look by generating a low poly style reference image as a guide for the mesh generator.

Also, very creative use of the mesh gen to create a reference for yourself.
