MCHP Age requirements
Please give me your guy's opinion on this, I genuinely believe it would help the app
Hello, I am a game developer and have been for the last seven years. I have always wanted to make a successful game. In the last three years, I have been working with Unreal Engine. After all this time, I have always died down to burnout making assets, paying for them, programming, and scrapping systems. I decided to take a break. I then saw Meta Connect (2025) I instantly decided to hop on this. After about a month of work thus far, I have a pretty nice game. It's a long story, but when looking at the age requirements for actually getting payouts through MHCP, everything crumbled. It seems like everything was for nothing, which brings us to my proposition.
MCHP Age requirements
Some things I would like to point out--a lot of the current games on Meta Horizons suck. This is just my honest opinion; they all seem very low effort. So these are the impacts of making a teen program (13+) or lowering age requirements.
Positive Impacts
- More worlds
- Potentially higher quality worlds
- More creators (assets, etc)
- More publicity (Creators talking about games on social media)
Negative Impacts
- Sloppy games
- Too many dead games (lower effort, just flooding the search bar)
Conclusion
I truly believe that making some type of teen program could help out the application as a whole. A lot of people are very talented on applications such as Roblox, and you guys offer a simple editor with many AI tools, and I think that many people get turned away, realizing that they are too young, losing potential viral games.
My Background
I have always loved making games, and ever since I got a VR four years ago, I have dreamed of making a good game. As I get older, I do need money. I don't want to spend so much free time like I used to for nothing. Meta Horizon worlds potentially could be the perfect solution as it cover server costs, and much more. I made Roblox games for three and a half years, only ever making one game with players, Unity for about half a year, then UE4-5 ever since, and hopefully Meta Horizons now if you guys can fix this one thing, otherwise I don't think I, and many others, will use it. Thank you.
Hi dev01,
Great question. The age requirement for payouts and publishing in the Meta Horizon Creator Program is there because Meta has to comply with privacy and payment laws for minors (these are pretty strict in the US and other regions).
That said:
You can still create, build, and learn in Horizon Worlds while underage—you just won’t be able to withdraw earnings or publish worlds with commerce features until you meet the age requirement.
Lots of creators have voiced interest in “junior” programs! I recommend posting your suggestion in the Feedback Hub (https://developers.meta.com/horizon/feedback/) so Meta’s team sees how important this is.
In the meantime, keep experimenting and bringing your ideas! Being part of the community helps shape the future of the platform.
