Previewing on mobile? And mobile performance profling?

So my world runs fine in VR, but it seems choppy on mobile. What poly counts are recommended for the entire scene? I don't think I have a ton, but then again I'm not sure what the guidelines are.

And is there a way to preview unpublished / draft worlds on your actual mobile device? I edit with the desktop editor, and I use its preview functions...but I need to actually preview on a phone to see if there are any performance problems.

Although I think it's weird that I have performance issues given that I'm testing on an iPhone 16 Pro Max.

BTW--LOD generation would be cool...and we could drop the default LOD level on lower end devices.

  • Yes, you should be able to test unpublished worlds on mobile. Here's the documentation on how to do it:

Once in preview (or in published mode) you can capture mobile performance metrics to evaluate what feature is causing low FPS. Here's the doc:

😓I submitted bug report-  I could not preview on a mobile device Unless world is Actively Published.

Yes, you need to publish (unlisted) in order to preview on mobile or desktop, for some reason.  It used to be this way for VR, too, but they fixed that so you could preview a fully unpublished world, not just unpublished changes.  Report a bug using the desktop editor that previewing a completely unpublished world on web/mobile is broken.

  • Hi! Thanks for sharing your feedback, it is extremely valuable. I see you have 3 different things, so let me answer one by one here.

    1. We are aware of the pain of not being able to preview the changes on the device. We are currently working on a solution to this issue.
    2. Regarding the performance issues, we have a team actively looking at the ways of making improvements and providing the best experience for you.
    3. Regarding the LOD suggestion, we also have this in our mind and working on a solution for it.

If you have any questions, happy to answer them :3

Being able to specify LOD levels with multiple FBX files for Custom Models when importing would be ideal.

These days, it should be easy for the editor to generate the LODs automatically. Which would be even better.

  • Also, for web/mobile, it does seem that your connection speed very much impacts the frame rate. Make sure you've got lots of bandwidth when testing.
