Promotion suggestions?

I am in the MHCP and I understand from my reading that bonuses depend largely on the number of people visiting my world and their return visits. I also understand that Meta will promote popular worlds to make them more popular.

However, this introduces a chicken and egg problem does it not? As an indie developer I don't have a budget to market my world and so how can I reach a level that would get Meta to notice my world and promote it, thus giving me bonuses that would allow me to further develop my world and so make it more popular, etc.?

Any advice?

  • I think that the focus on popularity also exposes Meta's own chicken and egg problem. Recently the sale of inexpensive Quest 3s headsets has led to a drop in age to the point where the most popular Horizon Worlds locations are simple games (shooters, Gorilla Tag clones) that appeal to kids. As a result Horizon Worlds is getting a reputation as an app for kids (and indeed more largely, VR headsets are getting a reputation as pricey toys for kids). But actually Meta wants to appeal to older people as well does it not? In which case it might consider adding at least one bonus that considers age or other demographics in order to start building an appeal to say the parents that actually bought the headsets.

  • Although Meta doesn't reveal how the algorithms work, I believe it will test your world against a small group of people by placing it in their menu. If it is successful, it will continue to present your world to more people. I suggest not publishing your world until it is ready to be judged.
