Water and fire effects

I had a day off today and I spent most of it visiting Horizon Worlds games on my mobile phone.

Most of the ones I liked I could see how to develop (well if I was working with a good artist!). One or two seemed to use features unavailable to most creators (video or clothing for example).

The Yeet Yourself game seems to do wildly different things with the Worlds engine than anything else I've seen.

But my main question is how some worlds did such good work with animated waterfalls/water spray and animated fire. Are there any good tutorials on water and fire?

  • Oh hey there! Yes there is a bit of special magic at play here... However there are a few ways to achieve this level of awesomeness. For example, There is a tutorial on how to make animated gifs in horizon using typescript HERE: Nyan Cat Tutorial or you can check out worlds by rex rod, He rotates his meshes to give that feel of flowing water! You can also check out the waterfall in the world BUGS! which also uses the rotation technique... Hope this helps! Happy Making!

Do you have a good example of one of those worlds with water and fire effects? It would help with breaking down how it works.

  • Music Valley has all kinds of spectacular effects. I love the waterfall.

I imagine you could turn it into fire by just changing the color palette.

And since Music Valley is a Meta world anyway, I wish they would just release a customizable waterfall as an asset. What I see in Music Valley seems to go far beyond what I could generate with particle effects.

Thanks. Would really love to know how RexRod did the water in Cosmic Tropical Beach. Will definitely spend more time in Bugs! It looks like a fun game.

  • Hiya-

I know I responded to this elsewhere, but for the benefit of people who primarily read the forums, there isn't a lot of 'special sauce' in the Yeet Yourself world. It's typescript and trimesh, but, for the most part, not using any 'special features' that aren't available to all MHCP creators.  For instance, the 'pull back to fling' feature is just some Camera API work, FocusedInteraction, and applying physics force to the player avatar.
