Welcome to your first Creator Challenge! This week, we're diving into the fundamentals of world creation in Meta Horizon. You'll learn how to use the desktop editor to build and publish your very first world. This challenge is perfect for anyone just starting their creator journey in Meta Horizon.

Questions or feeling stuck? You're in the right place! I will be actively monitoring this thread during the challenge period to help you succeed. Share your questions here to get support from both myself and fellow creators.

I will also be hosting “Getting Started Ask-me-anything” on Tuesday, February 25th at 12 PM PST.

  1. Install Desktop Editor
  2. Create your first world using the “My First World Tutorial” written guide + video 
  3. Publish your world
  4. Post your world link and a screenshot to earn your “Challenge Champion” badge
 

Tips for Success

 
  • Review your hotkeys under the Main Menu > Keyboard Shortcuts  
  • Right-click on the viewport to spawn yourself in a specific location
  • Don't hesitate to experiment with different assets
  • Ask questions if you get stuck -   I am here to help!

    Click below to see my world. I just did the basic requirements as per the tutorial. I wasn't sure if I was expected to be creative but there are clearly endless opportunities to create.

    As a teacher I thought this was a great introduction to the desktop editor. The tutorial was perfect. I don't say that often.

      Great job completing this, TeacherDanny, and thank you for the perfect review.

      I saw in another thread you reported issues with the weapon shooting in the wrong direction. I did notice this and I think I can help you here. The grabbable is falling back into a rest animation. If you're on web, right-clicking your mouse will re-aim the weapon, but for mobile, this isn't possible. So alternatively we can use Typescript to force a pose and then remove it after the weapon is let go.

      I did notice a couple of areas where the walls didn't match up well. I know snapping in the desktop editor is impossible in this scenario, but I would say a little overlap is better than a little gap in this case.

      Amazing first world, T00NAH. Great use of sound, lighting, and vfx too.
      I did manage to escape your graveyard though. I know the tutorial didn't mention this, but always keep that in mind. Tall shape colliders are great for preventing this. Also keep in mind that players using teleport can reach places normal players can't jump.

      But you still pulled off a very nice job. Ambience, lighting, colliders, even a ghostly looking NPC. Very nice touch, great job!

    Hey, I've managed to do an environment quickie with this editor, and I like how convienient is it in terms of rapid playtesting/publishing - it took only an hour from uploading assets, to publishing it for mobile and VR.

    Of course, there is long way for this tool to reach perfection. For example, when I've duplicated assets, it created new ones with different, random rotation (it modified Pitch and Roll, so it was really frustrating). Let me know, where can I submit feedback, when I find more bugs.

    Anyway, looking forward to dig deeper and learn more about scripting!

    My challenge world is called Fantasy Cemetery, pretty generic name but it's for learning purposes.

      This looks great, amazing job with the environment and lighting. The only thing I found missing was a little sound ambiance, but the orange sky looks great!

      This is a bug and you can report it using the 'Report a Problem' option on the main menu in the upper-left corner of the Desktop Editor.

    Just getting started, but here's Greg the NPC and some boots you can pick up and drop. Was really great to be able to get things up and running on so many platforms so quickly!

    Looking forward to trying to make some things happen with TypeScript next.

    Does it have to be a new world can it be an older world already published that i can enter

      Great job adding your own touch to the pumpkin; it looks great. I was able to escape the walls by jumping over them using the crates, though, so be sure to include colliders in your future builds to keep people where they belong.

      Love it...always into spooky things on this side 😄

      I'll be adding my level today, which too I will be dressing up with a few...actually a lot, of personal touches to try and spice things up
