Achievements Done Right

Why?

Currently achievements on meta quest are almost meaningless while even having a designated app almost nobody uses called "scoreboards". I was thinking achievements should get revamped and heres how.

How?

For users: achievements should be displayed on the control panel and notification panel with a new app introduced named "Achievements"

Achievements should have tiers like playstation and xbox.

Tiers going 1 (worst) and to 4 (best)

  1. Bronze - minor achievements
  2. Silver - normal achievements
  3. Gold - challenging achievements
  4. Platinum - extremely hard achievements

(All with complete different sounds for each tier, with platinum being the "best sounding" tier.)

For developers: add tools for developers to add tiers for specific achievements.

Hey, are there any updates on this topic? Is there a way to create some kind of official petition to Meta and gather support from people who want a proper achievements tracking app?

Maybe we could even get a well-known YouTuber involved to help make it go viral?

** I just bought my first Meta Quest this week and I absolutely love it, but when I found out how poor the achievements system is, it honestly felt like a stab in the back :(

staszekf It's not such an easy thing to do as many people are playing many different games and trying to track all those would be virtually impossible.. The best and most logical achievements system should be set up by the game developers themselves. On Steam each individual game is set up by the developers to track achievements.. I'm playing After the Fall, Alien Rogue Incursion Maid of Sker. Little Nightmares, Star Trek Infection and am at different stages.. That would be impossible to follow unless you want Meta to be monitoring your activities even more than they do already. Better to ask game developers to set up achievements like they do on PC games.

The tracking of achievements works just fine.
It is all stored on Meta's servers.
It is just that there is no official way to view it.

If 1 dude (me) can make an un-official way, I'm pretty sure Meta can make an official way if they want to.

  • You still have Scoreboards?
For me, it was removed from my headset (by Meta) about 6 months ago...
The deprecation and removal of that app is the reason I created https://meta-achievements.onrender.com/

IMHO, we don't need a new separate app, tracking achievements should be integrated in the OS itself .

Tiers would be awesome, but I'm afraid that ship has sailed.
There are hundreds of apps where the developers are not active anymore.
Maybe Meta can automatically set the difficulty depending on how many people have unlocked the achievement? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(active developers can fine-tune if they want)

I think a point-based system (based on the amount of people that have unlocked it) has more chance to happen.
    Unlocked by 0-10% players = 10 points
    Unlocked by 10-20% players = 9 points
    ....
    Unlocked by 90-100% players = 1 point
