Hello Oculus Community (and again, hopefully the Beat Saber development team),
Wanted to follow up on my initial post - hope this is the best way to do it. Sorry, this may be a kind of long rant.
When I found out I could not share the Beat Saber music packs with the shared accounts, I reached out to Oculus and the Beat Saber team.
Have heard ZERO from Beat Saber.
Went back and forth several times with Oculus on this. As you know from my first post, I think it is ridiculous that we can share the game but not the music packs. In my discussion with Oculus, I expressed this many times and came back to the simple point that they (Oculus) are the platform. They control the platform and should exercise some degree of control over the developers. I pointed out that Apple does maintain some control and the end result is that the Apple ecosystem is very dependable. Certainly not perfect but dependable.
When I made this comment to Oculus, this is what I received back: "I wish it is easier to comprehend if the system is as simple as the one Apple is practicing. However, we truly hope you understand that we at Oculus, provide a flexible platform for our dedicated developers hence allowing them to have the freedom to modify the app-sharing features for their application. Specifically for Beat Saber, you can check out their statement in regards to exceptions for other music packs here."
So, based on their response, Oculus is just fine with the developers doing whatever they want. Seems they also are taking a swipe at my intelligence by indicating that I can't comprehend what is going on here. Oculus has offered to refund the music pack purchase price but that is not what I want.
I am incredibly disappointed at Oculus' lack of support for the platform customers. Again, it is their platform and they should bear at least some of the responsibility for making sure apps work properly. Giving developers carte blanche and hoping for the best is not a good plan.
Overall I still like the headset but this is certainly a big "other" in the overall experience. Hopefully Oculus or Beat Saber will get their act together and do something.
