Yeah, this is my first experience with the Oculus Quest. I'm playing my brother's. I was going to buy one of my own, but not after playing it. This black (more like gray) screen issue makes the device completely unplayable. It happens 75% of the times i touch the headset to adjust it. You can still hear the music of the game and the haptic feedback(?) of menu items when you wave the controller over them. Even hard resetting the device doesn't fix it: on the password screen, after hard-resetting, you don't even have enough time to enter the password before it turns black (and not gray this time).. keep hard resetting over and over, and the same thing happens: black screen on the password screen after a few seconds of it displaying properly. I kept turning it off, putting it in the usb-c charger, gently dropping it face-down on a pillow, all in an attempt to get the device to reset and working again. Eventually it sometimes lets me enter the login password (the dot combination thing). But it's so painful to get to that point, and so unpredictable and inconsistent, that I just gave up trying to use it. I do not understand how this has been happening since the beginning of the year with no fix. This device is a joke. I love the wireless concept, but it doesn't count for anything if the screen keeps turning off while you're trying to play. (usually after gently touching the headset to adjust it a little.)
Holding the Oculus button on the controller like the user 2 comments above me suggested does not kick the display to life either. I can see the Oculus symbol on the screen with the circle going around it, but after it's done calibrating, nothing changes: still stuck on the empty gray screen with the game's music playing in the background. No warnings, no errors, no signs of what is wrong or how to fix it. Yikes. Pathetic.
