Eye exercise app - the Wii Fit for Quest?

So I'll start this by saying that I'm both inherently lazy and an early tech adopter - they often go hand in hand.  My Optometrist told me that I need to do some eye strengthening exercises (like can be found at (https://www.optometrists.org/vision-therapy/guide-to-vision-therapy/eye-exercises-you-can-do-at-home/) and I thought to myself - how has this not been gamified?

I don't have the time or the expertise to start developing this myself, but wondering if Meta internally developed and hard-bundled this app with the headset, does it become a killer app opening the quest to a wider (lazy) audience like myself?

The goal wouldn't be to supplant an optometrist visit - more to gamify the exercises that they give you to do at home (and therefore no regulatory issues).

  • First, thanks for the link. There are excellent exercises there for many people. I actually improved my number, by using similar ones, not to perfection, but by a few degrees, with advice and help from a family member. Good eye exercise , if you have the time and patience can reverse weakness in sight. The VR idea would be great except it doesn't work. In VR our eyes looking at distant and close VR images doesn't affect the optical range of the eye. In VR our brain tells us something is close, mid distant, far away etc, however our eyes are only seeing a flat screen. We can fool our brain but not our eyes unfortunately. To our eyes we are looking at a flat screen, just really close up. You make very relevant points that we shouldn't spend too much time looking at screens of any kind and we should be exercising our eyes. Your post is an excellent one as many of us don't think about how any screen, TV, laptop, VR, can be affecting us. I'm not an expert by the way, my older sister is an opthalmic surgeon specializing in cataracts and glaucoma and wrote a thesis for her Doctorate on the effects of digital screens on the eye. She's the smart one, not me!😁
