had an update today and was a PIA to get the download, then a PIA for the update to happen

Rebooted, turned it on and off, plug, unplug, plug,, reboot to get through that took at least 30 minutes. Then in DCS it was giving all kinds of issues... FPS went bad.. disconnects... Hourglass all night.. was working really good.. and what really sucks I bet not one part of the update was for my Oculus Rift S. it just punished me. Just not happy at all. Leave it alone! Don't make it worse!

Thanx, IL-2 worked fine, as usually in VR for a couple hours today. I fly DCS again tomorrow night (Online Campaign) for a few hours. Been flying these (flight sims) sims since 1997. DCS is the one that has to be tuned and no room for issues. Cannot tell anything till then. Nothing else was done to computer or ISP in a long while Months or longer. I have to check with al computer stuff a couple hours before I fly to make sure it is ready to go. The VR updates from Meta are slow, and they hang all the time. They say download, downloaded, take off headset to install. have to reboot so it stops hanging, and this goes around for 30 mins to an hour. a PIA to get it update, when a forced update.  MY daughter game me a $100 gift certificate for a new VR, but hanging back a  bit longer. This Oculus Rift S, is working good and still a lot of money for a new VR.

btw, I use 'OpenComposite'  whenever possible instead of SteamVR. Although I have played extensive VR with game like Half-Life 'Alyx' and other sims and games. and it is a must to use SteamVR with those.

Thanks for letting us know, SSPalmer

We're glad that you're not currently experiencing any issues. - However, it's as you said, the real test will be tomorrow night.

We just wanted to let you know that we are still on stand-by, and ready to help if you encounter any, and that we completely empathize with your frustration with the updates.

Good luck with your campaign tomorrow night, although from such a seasoned flight simulator pilot such as yourself. - We doubt you'll need it!

We look forward to hearing back from you.

  • back to the crazy updates.. downloaded but wont update, unplug, replug, open close.. reboot, and it just refuses.. been going through this for years, it might still update, but it is really amess getting the updates to update.. worse yet, it probably does not nothing for my headset.. probably for different model since the Oculus Rift S is so old. Sitting here going through everything to make it update... it just isn't. Lick to update, take headset off, then nothing... try again 10x.

      Hey SSPalmer!

We came across your updates on your update problem (punny, we know) and wanted to lend a helping hand in getting this sorted for you.

We would advise that you try to use our Software Update Tool, which force-updates your headset.

Use the following steps to force the headset to update to the latest software version:

      1. Back up data. Use cloud backup to ensure your device’s app data, like app progress or app settings, is saved in the cloud.
      2. Power off your device. Press and hold the Power button located on the right side of the headset to power off your device.
      3. Load the boot screen. Press and hold both the Power and Volume Down buttons until you see the USB Update Mode Menu. When you see the USB Update Mode Menu, release the Power and Volume Down buttons immediately.
      4. Select Sideload update. On the boot screen, use the Volume buttons to navigate to Sideload update. Then press the Power button to select it. Once selected, remove your headset.
      5. Load the software update tool. On a computer, load the software update tool webpage using a compatible web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Opera).
      6. Connect your device. Use the USB-C cable that came with your device to connect it to the computer. If you’re using an Elite Strap, ensure the cable is connected to your headset and not the strap. Then click the "Connect device" button on the tool's webpage.

We hope that this tool gets you onto the latest software version, but if you're still having trouble after trying it out, please get in touch with us!
