HOW TO RUN STEAM VR GAMES IN STEAM VR NOT OCULUS

This is a brief tutorial on how to launch games in steam vr and not oculus when oculus forces a game to open in oculus instead of steam vr... pretty simple. This causes issues because you cant use stuff like OVR for streaming in oculus. Here is what you do

1: Find games .Exe files
-right click
-properties
-compatibility
- (check box) run compatibility mode for (windows 7)
- (check box) run this program as administrator

2: Go to game library in steam
- right click game
- properties
- General
- (launch options)
- Write "-openvr"

3: Open oculus software

4: Launch steam VR (not game just steam VR by itself)

5: Launch game from vitual desktop (oculus one or steam vr version)

6: Allow game to launch

7: Profit 💲💲💲

 

I cant promise this will work for sure, but it has worked for me 🤷‍:female_sign:

    do u have to launch it by virtual desktop or just steam bc when i launch it on steam it works but then kicks me out just before it loads in

    Not sure if you still need help with this or not but I just had this issue. You have to go through the Oculus settings not Steam settings but Oculus defaults with it's own headset even if it's not connected. Just go to sound settings and change it to what you need then launch stuff.
