I can’t play multiplayer games

I am having trouble playing multiplayer games. I join a multiplayer game and it will kick me from the lobby but not the actual game from 5 to 30 seconds of being in the lobby. I tried doing a factory reset, deleting and reinstalling the game and restarting my oculus. The same will happen when I’m on a call with my friends. Please help.

Sorry for the late reply. My vr is all working now. I don’t know how it happened but the day before, I downloaded another game and the next day it was working. I don’t know why that would change anything. It just started working again randomly. Thanks for all your help.

Some of these methods aren't useful and disconnecting our oculus from. The wifi and hitting the forget button isn't exactly a good suggestion as some of us don't own the wifi we use. Pls provide useful methods

Hey there! It seems you're talking about Wi-Fi that is not yours and I don't want to be rude but it would be ideal to have your own personal Wi-Fi. Other than that if the Wi-Fi is with your family try doing the steps support has provided.

Hello there! Is this happening whether you play in standalone mode or when you're connecting to the PC, and is it happening with a specific app? Please let us know so that we can better understand the issue you're experiencing.

  • Hi, I am not connected to a pc so I’m guessing that I’m using standalone mode and  I only play gorilla tag but I can’t call my friends like I said and it happens in gorilla tag as well so I’m guessing that it is happening in different apps. I’m not 100% sure though.

Hey mocke.2023, just to make sure that it has nothing to do with your internet capabilities have you done any troubleshooting to your network? Were you able to try a different game to see if it was just one that was causing you problems? Also, if you haven't already, could you check the speed of your network using a computer or your phone? Do you have a 2.4GHz or 5GHz network? Do you have many devices connected to the same network as this might cause the capabilities to slow down? These are some ideas to think about in the future, however rebooting the router and making sure you have a solid network will solve multiplayer issues 90% of the time.

  • I tried a different game that uses multi player. It did the same thing as Gorilla Tag and when I’m on a call with my friends. My internet is 5Ghz. I tried rebooting the internet and this hasn’t changed anything.

Hey there, mocke.2023. Thanks for reaching back out and giving us a heads-up about what you have done. We understand how inconvenient this may be for you, so we'd like to share some steps to make that happen.

Have you done a reboot of your headset or a factory reset? If you have not, please do the following:

      To restart your headset:

      1. With your headset on and powered on, press and hold the power button on the right side of your headset until you see the Power off screen.
      2. Select Restart. Your headset will turn off and then turn back on.

If you're unable to restart your headset:

      1. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. This will manually turn off your headset.
      2. Wait 30 seconds.
      3. Press and hold the power button until your headset turns back on.

To perform a factory reset using your phone:

      1. Open the Meta Quest app on your phone.
      2. Tap Devices in the bottom menu.
      3. Tap the headset connected to your phone.
      4. Tap Advanced Settings.
      5. Tap Factory Reset and then Reset.

To perform a factory reset using the headset:

      1. Turn off your headset.
      2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
      3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
      4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

Please let us know how it goes so we can determine if any additional steps are necessary.

  • I have tried restarting my headset and nothing changed. I have done a factory reset before you recommend it and no change.

If you haven't already we suggest contacting your internet provider to see if there is any limitation in your usage. Also, try a hotspot or maybe going to a friends house and trying a different network. As problems like this are directly influenced by your internet connection.

My friend has the same problem. He bought the *used* meta quest 2 headset last month as well, but he has had major issues with multiplayer games. He can't play ANY multiplayer game, for example Rec Room is stuck in logging in screen and Population: One is stuck in loading screen. He can, though, play offline games and his internet works perfectly fine.

Have you fixed the issue yet?
