I don't think Meta Credits will be discontinued. They simply won't be given away as a free Perk in the Horizon+ subscription.
Meta Credits (purple diamonds) are very different from Meta Store Credits. You can use them to buy certain DLC content in certain games. I recently used some to buy the "Cities DLC" for the game Real VR Fishing, for example (because it worked out to be cheaper than paying cash). But there is not very much content that supports Meta Credits.
