Is VR any good for no hands ?

Hello:

I was looking at the Meta Quest 3 VR Unit at Costco and realized it might be a genius move to buy for my daughter.   She is quadriplegic and I thought she might be able to experience things she otherwise can't.   It would be great to have her put these things on and be able to experience riding a horse or figure skating for example.

She can't really use her hands, so I was hoping folks in here would know if there were many games/experiences available that would take her on adventures in the world without having to use hand controls ?

Thank You for reading.

  • No. Pretty much everything in the headset needs the use of hands, unfortunately. I wouldn't recommend it.

Edit: if your daughter has limited use of her hands, but is able to use her fingers to move a thumb stick and press buttons, there might be some solutions, like this grip assist for Quest headsets:

  • What steve_40 says is correct, particularly about the Meta Quest. However there are some headsets, I believe, that can use eye tracking and blinking to activate some things. I honestly don't know a lot about it but I saw a documentary some time ago about a quadriplegic person using VR. There are 3 headsets designed for this, the Tobi-I, TD-I and UTA 3-D. Though not specifically VR, they can assist with tasks depending on the system. You can check them out. Also, the Apple Vision Pro has some capabilities for mobility impaired people also.. Read this article here it also mentions people without the use of their hands. Good luck. I hope you can find something.
