Meta Hyperscape Capture

Greetings,

This is such an exciting application.

I recently created captures of my childhood home. I divided the house into smaller sections to scan. Most of the scans worked out well.

The problem - I stared one scan in a small room at the base of a set of stairs. I scanned the stairs, then climbed the stairs to scan the upper floor. I completed each phase of the capture, returned to the base of the stairs, and began the next phase. The result of rendering starts me at the base of the stairs, but it doesn't let me climb them. I am confident the data is there, but I cannot reach the upper floor.

Is there a way to change my starting location or teleport to the upper floor?

I am thinking my only option is to capture it again.

I have a second question.

How durable are these scans? It seems we may not be able to rely on captures as a long-term asset. I am interested in any context or plans for preserving these captures.

Thank you in advance for your constructive replies.

  • There's no way to change the starting location. Is your headset World Movement setting set to slide or teleport? Maybe setting it to teleport, you might be able to teleport to the upper floor? But I haven't seen any hyperscapes so far where it's possible to change floors.

I wouldn't count on the scans being durable, the app is still in Beta. All scans I made before November (when the slide movement was implemented) are now unavailable in the capture app library. I have to use the alternative Preview app to see them. Meta hasn't provided a converter to make them compatible with the newer scans.
