Microphone works on one account but not the other

We know exactly how microphone issues can impact your Metaverse experience, not being able to talk with your friends while enjoying some virtual games together is of course not what we want you to have, we would love to help you out and see you immerse yourself within the virtual plane once again with all of your friends by your side!

 

To get started, there are a few things that could be causing your microphone to cut out suddenly, for example the microphone being obstructed or maybe something more internal, we would love to get to the bottom of this with you!

Before we get cracking with some troubleshooting to get this fixed for you, could you tell us if there is also an issue the speakers of your headset? You mentioned that you can only hear your friends for 2 second when you join a call, does this also happen in games or do applications play sounds without a problem?

 

Now, we will leave a few troubleshooting steps here for you to try out, this should help with any issue that your microphone might be facing at the moment:

 

1. Firstly, we would recommend making sure that the microphone is clean of any dust and not obstructed by anything.
   • On Quest 3 the microphones are built into the front plate and the center camera. There is one on top of the center camera and one on either side just below the center camera.
   • On the Quest 3S as well as the Quest 2, the microphones are located inside of 2 pinholes. The pinholes for the Quest 3S can be found on the left side of the nose when wearing your headset while the pinholes for the Quest 2 can be found on either side of the nose. They are also just a few inches apart one another.
   • Please also remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may block the microphone (such as a third-party facial interface, etc.)
2. If there is nothing in the way of the microphone, then please try to reset your microphone in your setting, you can do so with the steps below:
   • Settings > Audio > Toggle Microphone (mute/unmute)
3. If available to you, then please also try using headphones while you're in a call with your friends, this will help see if there is audio.
