Newbie questions

I recently bought Meta Quest 3S for my autistic daughter, who has global delays in her development. The primary apps that I intend to use for her are - Music VR videos, Travel Apps and youtube videos and some skill development (like stacking things, solving simple puzzles etc).

So far she won't come out of 'Ocean Rift' app .. she is just hooked to it. The challenge is that she can't, at least at this time, manage the controllers (owing to fine and gross motor issues). I have setup the Quest to cast to TV, but  I am still managing this for her.

Also I tried Apps like National Geographic and feel apps like these she may never be able to use on her own.

So given above backround, if I buy another Meta for myself, can we both be in the same App and watching be at the same point? So taking the Ocean Rift app, if she is in the 'Dolphin environment' .. I would be in the same as well and can help her guide from inside rather than outside.

Hope I was able to pose my question on what I am trying to find out or achieve.

Only for games/apps that are marked as "multiplayer". Ocean Rift is single player.

My 12yo daughter and I can play together privately in games such as Raccoon Lagoon, Real VR Fishing, or in any of the Horizon Worlds that don't have child age restrictions. Tip: in Horizon Worlds, when you invite your child to join you, there is an option to make it a private session so you can keep random players out.

Another option is that you can use the "watch live" feature in the phone app to see and hear what your child is doing on her headset without needing a second headset for yourself. In the phone app home screen, tap the hamburger menu (|||), then scroll down to Family Center, then tap your child's profile, then "Watch live". Your child must have a properly setup child account and be logged in to their profile on the headset for the option to appear on your phone.

  • Thanks a lot! I do cast it to TV. I will check out the Apps I have that might have the multiplayer option .. of course .. need to get the 2nd Meta :) ... meanwhile I am going to try to coach her how to use the controller.

suharsh67 Yes, as steve_40 says there are some options that are multi-player that are not overly intense. Can I say you've made a great decision to get this headset for your daughter. There are studies showing huge improvements over time in communication and other areas with VR use. You probably know more than I do. I have a cousin with autism and though he is likely older than your daughter, he has been using VR since the first Oculus and I think it has helped him live an independent normal life. Well done sir! 👏

Maccyb123 Thanks!!! That is so encouraging. Few months back I was on some SN forums and parents (especially moms) were expressing similar improvements that you have mentioned. I also bought an App for her that teaches different languages .. it will be a journey to teach her but I intend to try my best.
