I'm the OP, and I wanted to come back and update. The solution in my case, was to have my son force an update to his headset's operating system. (Meta has a webpage devoted to this: Meta Web Tool )
After he did that, I was successfully able to invite him into the Hyperscape capture that I'd created. It was his old childhood bedroom.... and he was blown away. What a great app.
