oculus rift home

Hi all

I've been using my Oculus Rift happily for some years now but at some point recently it seems that the "homes" that I had built and all the object that I had collected have just vanished.

I now have a the "grey field" when I log in to my headset, All the games etc., seem to work okay but I do miss the homes I had built.

Is it true that they have all gone for good ?

Thanks

David

  • Hey deltaalpha52. Recently, we stopped supporting the older Oculus Home experience within the Rift software. This standalone app had some great customization features that we loved playing with, and hope to bring some of it into the future. We know this is disappointing news for everyone who loved using their Oculus Home, and we feel it too.

WHY!!!!  why wouldnt you just leave the app alone so we could at least enjoy all the content and trinkets we have built up over the years !!!

Not to mention visiting other peoples homes was by far the most enjoyable experience anyone who tried on my headset had !!!   **bleep**

      Hello,

I understand that experiences can go EOL. I was wondering if you could give me/us/the community a copy of our homes so we can experience them. Even if we have to run it on our own server. Please let me know. I expect the answer is no and I understand that as well. I would like to voice my opinion that I would love to have something like that back again. I spent a good amount of time setting up my home and even though I did not visit it often I enjoyed my time when I did. I appreciate your consideration and while not expecting a positive response I nonetheless hope for one. Hope you are having a good day.

Hey there! I know you were trying to get connected with support regarding this. However, there is not a way to get users copy of their homes 😞 Sadly. this feature is gone and trust me I am upset too however, some experiences come to a end 😞

I hope this is provided for future devices as that would be awesome! I hope this email finds you well and understand your feeling regarding this. Hopefully you can still enjoy your device! Happy Thursday!

      Please bring it back

Oculus home was way better than anything I've seen out there

I see now My Oculus Rift S has a glitch and I notice a lot of users out there were troubleshooting like crazy in desperation. I paid over $400 for this device and would brag about it, now the cool interface went away and its even having issues recognizing movement

are you replacing units or giving some kind of credit so we can get a new updated / supported device?

I bought a few games that I'm pretty sure are exclusive to oculus - I don't want to miss on those and buy others again on another headset...

Heya, I just wanted to chime in here and give my two cents. I know that the Home feature being removed is disappointing for a lot of our PCVR users, but I hope it doesn't completely turn you away from us!

Currently, there isn't any sort of program for credits or trade in to get a new device, and I honestly wouldn't expect to see one in the future. However, if that's something you'd be interested in, I'd recommend posting on the Ideas board. That's the best way to get any sort of ideas and suggestions seen by the right people!

Also, in regard to the games you've already bought with Oculus, you'll still have access to all of your PCVR games on any device you connect to PCVR with! So for example, if you decide to get the Quest 3 when it comes out, you can connect to your PC with Air Link or a Link cable to play all the same PCVR games. A good amount of our games are also what we call "cross-buy", meaning that if you own the PC version you will also own the standalone version if you use the same account on a standalone headset. You can check out a list of cross-buy games here.

I hope I provided some answers and clarification for you! Please don't hesitate to let me know if you need any further explanation or anything. I'll do my best to answer as much as I can!

  • I had the same thought of playing Oculus Homes again but on a server, I don't know how I would do that. Would you know how to do it?

  • I am very unhappy with the loss of Oculus Home.  I liked my Home and spent a great deal of time setting it up exactly to my preferences.  It seems to be a pointless and exasperating forced change, and I don't believe Meta will be able to justify the nuisance it presents to those users who will miss the Home. This is VR we're using, and Meta has just decided to lose a rich, satisfying, and immersive aspect of the user experience - the whole point of VR - in favour of a lacklustre menu that could be just as well represented by a flat screen.  The Oculus Home environment was one of the Rift's unique selling points, and its removal is very frustrating and alienating to those of us who viewed it as part of their account and self-presentation.  Why don't you just change all our usernames and virtual avatars while you're at it, while we're all losing control of our preferences anyway?

Steam VR is still a viable option. You can access it with your Oculus PCVR head set or Quest 2 with Air Link or cable. Steam VR even has an app where you can create your own Home and share it. I'm just mentioning this because it seems Meta no longer has any interest in giving it's customers PCVR Homes, and I am sure they won't mind if we go elsewhere.

  • Can you weasels stop saying "we understand some experiences come to an end"? I've literally never had a company come and remove software from my computer behind my back before. This is an unprecedented violation of trust with your users. Meta screwed up big time. Nobody is saying they had to update or improve it, or even sustain the social aspects -- just leave it in place so users can enjoy what they paid for and worked on.

The only reason for Meta to have done this was complete and total disdain for your customers. Since in this case it was a small number of users, they'll get away with it without serious repercussions -- but it indicates their decision making process is garbage and they intend to treat their users like garbage. Based on the stupidity of this decision, Meta is sure to mess up far bigger things in the future. No wonder New Horizons is such a failure: Meta has zero understanding of what is enjoyable in VR, what is valuable to their customers, or indeed that their customers are valuable at all. I will never spend money on a Meta product again.

Shame on everyone involved in this.

  • I don't really care about losing home. What I do care about is that this isn't the first time Meta/Facebook have discontinued something that I was using. In fact it's at least the third. To be fair, you'd already lost me anyway (Between the loss of focus on PCVR and just being plain creepy as a company) but this definitely cements that I won't be making any kind of investment in your technologies going forward.

  • This really is upsetting to learn that this feature is gone.  Devastated as it took me YEARS to collect some of the items in my houses and just like that POOF.  Meta, really...couldn't just let the loyal Oculus fans and beta personal keep their home environment, I've had three rifts, countless accessories and spent thousands of dollars and the best part of the night in VR was relaxing at home with friends across the world.  In a world were everyone is being divided, I guess you could not let us have a sweet moment to connect with friends in a lovely custom environment.

Really poor form Meta...no wonder I stay away from the Facebook toxic environment already.  Thanks for taking away a simple inexpensive pleasure and helping to divide the world further!

I'll be heading over to Sony VR2 now and forget that Oculus and Meta exist!

  • Yes it seems that way in Canada we call that BS. And the way of the world
