PTC v83 Settings has Stopped

Just updated to PTC v83 and have a persistent problem. Quest 3 starts up in passthrough, then after a few seconds I get a dialog box announcing "Settings has stopped". The only option is Close app. Double tapping on the headset cancels passthrough and reveals my homespace. The new menu system is there, I can see all my apps and the haptic feedback triggers when I try to start one, but nothing starts. None of the other menu icons work, apart from home, which goes to passthrough. I tried a restart from the boot menu, but it hasn't altered anything. Multiple normal restarts led to one occasion where I could start apps, but now back to the useless condition.

Hi there NakaginPhil, we came across your post and wanted to offer some assistance.

We want all of our users to have the best experience, therefore, let's try and get this resolved for you as soon as possible.

Thank you for being proactive in trying to resolve the issue. Could we ask you to perform a hard reboot on your headset? To do this, follow the below steps:

    1. Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
    2. Wait 30 seconds.
    3. If your headset doesn't automatically turn back on, press the power button until your headset has turned back on.

If, after this, you are still experiencing issues, please reach out to our wonderful Customer Support team so that one of our lovely colleagues can investigate this further for you.

In the meantime, we'd really appreciate it if you could submit a bug report so that our engineers can look into this. This can be done from either your headset or the Meta Horizon mobile app. The steps on how to do this can be found here.

Hope to see you in the Metaverse soon!

I am getting this problem too. This is how it happened.

      1. I installed v83.  2) It was working fine. 3) I decided not to use Navigator and went to Experimental settings and turned it off then rebooted. 4) It was working fine after reboot but I did not like the UI so went back to Experimental mode and turned on Navigator again and rebooted.  5) When it rebooted, the message came up to say that "Settings has stopped". The only option was to click OK. The UI was there, but clicking any of the icons does not do anything.
I have rebooted several times and also tried rebooting by pressing Power and Volume down for 30sec. It always starts up with the "Settings has stopped" message and non of the icons works.

I have submitted a bug report.

What can I do - I don't want to factory reset or loose data?

This won't fix it, but you might get a temporary respite. Keep trying restarts (long press the power button type) and double tap to exit passthrough as soon as you can (keep doing it). You'll still get the settings has stopped message, but if you are lucky on one of the tries you might get a working menu. I had the settings icon move high and left, like a distorted cog icon. That got me into settings and I have set up automatically update, but also gone back to the old fashioned pre-navigator interface, which seems a more reliable (might be imagining it). I am avoiding restarts completely now I have a working headset, and am hoping the next update fixes things. One thing I noticed when I had the new navigator UI with the non-working icons was that it shows icons for apps and games that are part of Horizon+, which I used to have but cancelled several months ago. I am wondering if that is anything to do with it.

  • V83, i' ve got the same message after quest 3 boot. "settings has stopped". But after closing the message, every things seems ok.
