Remove horizon worlds

Is there no way to completely remove horizon worlds or at least all of the Worlds that pop up in installed app anymore? Saw there was a way to do it through the phone app up until a couple of days ago but now that's not working either.

Hi ibejtk! Thank you for sharing your post with the community.

We understand that you are wondering whether you can completely remove Meta Horizon Worlds from your installed apps, and we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

We have received your private message and will reply shortly! We will also post our answer here:

Horizon Worlds is a pre-installed app, so it cannot be removed from the headset. Pre-installed apps on Meta Quest devices are designed to be part of the core functionality and cannot be fully uninstalled like user-installed apps. Horizon Worlds promotes our Metaverse platform and encourages our users to engage with our virtual world!

We hope this has helped you understand why this option is unavailable.

We look forward to seeing you in the Metaverse soon!

The core reasoning was already understood, however, the desire of many, many users to not engage with these apps or have them cluttering the device is very unflattering.

For me personally, it is enough to return the device. I have no desire to engage in the “social” aspects, nor, forced integration of unwanted apps on a device I’ve paid over $500 on.

If you have a gaming pc, you can connect it to Rift-S or Rift CV1 - then you can choose to install Horizon Worlds or not.

A used Rift-S can often be found in great shape for a very small price. Or there are of course other hmds to choose from, if you only focus on PCVR.

We know why it's there ... but if we don't want to engage with it why can't we turn it off ? It is literally dominating my UI . I have ZERO interest in it ... so I should be able to hide it at the very least. I paid for my Quest headset for games I CHOOSE to play ...  .. NOT Horizon Worlds that is forced down my throat.

Even though they won’t do anything about it, hopefully we’ll see more people voicing this opinion in the thread or similar threads. I know it’s an extremely common feeling, but not everyone is posting it here.

The quest 3 will be my last headset due to this horizons world crap. Your meta world sucks and forcing it on the headset as mandatory does not make me or anyone else want to use it. Not to mention taking away my home environment as well.

  • it makes the entire UI horrible, there are loads of suggested worlds I have no interest in. why should I have to go though endless tutorials and sideload apps I would otherwise have no interest in using, just to remove something I should be able to remove if I wanted. There is NO reason to have this rubbish forced in my face when I have no intention of ever using them and not something that I bought the headset for. IMO if this is the way META is going to continue I don't see any reason to buy another headset, instead I'd be happier buying the games I want on another platform instead and not have to put up with this.

  • Yes, it's a nuisance for those of us who aren't very interested in it. Like our phones,,sometimes we have apps we don't want forced upon us. I've just learned to ignore it.

This is most definitely not a resolution or solution to noted issue, learning to ignore an issue is not a solution for an issue. As a side note, I don’t know what phone you’re using, but I for sure remove any apps I don’t want - don’t have any lingering that I don’t want taking up space.

All Android phones have some apps pre-installed you can't fully uninstall. However I think if someone can't ignore something they don't want to use, that's more a problem for the person who lacks the ability to just bypass it and not bother using it. There are more important things in life. It's like life. Enjoy what you like and don't let what you don't like or can't change bother you.  There are more important things than apps on a device. If it really bothers you or stresses you that much maybe you shouldn't be using the headset. If you don't like it, there's an option to not buy it.

  • I have a Quest2 64GB, and I would really want to be able to uninstall the Horizon Worlds app. It uses almost 2,5 - 3GB of storage, and I don't intend to use the app. I can use the storage, please let me uninstall it. And no, I'm not interested in having to upgrade to another headset just because of your policies.
