Severe Issues After Updating to Meta OS v83 (App Reinstall, Boundary, Battery Drain)

Hello,
I’m reporting multiple critical issues that started appearing immediately after updating my Quest device to Meta OS v83. These problems are affecting normal use and were not present before the update.

Issues observed:

  1. App Reinstallation Failure
    When a user uninstalls an app and tries to reinstall it, the device refuses to install it again. The Install button becomes unresponsive or the installation never starts.
  2. Boundary Visibility Bug
    After creating or resetting the boundary, it does not fade out after 2–3 seconds as it should.
    The boundary stays visible permanently, making the headset almost unusable.
  3. Severe Battery Drain
    The battery is dropping extremely fast. For example, the headset discharges from 80% to 10% in about 10 minutes, even when no heavy apps are running.

These issues appear directly after the v83 update and have been reproduced across multiple devices.
If anyone from Meta can confirm whether these bugs are known or provide a temporary workaround, it would be very helpful.

  • You seem to be the first with these issues. Try fully powering your headset off and on, not just the quick restart.

  • Faster battery drain here, too. I wonder if some background task is causing it. 

    Also, does not fix this bug...

  • im having problems the app will not start im on the quest 2 i hope they can fix it i use vr chat to escape from my ptsd

      To report a bug from your Meta Quest.

      1. Press Meta button or Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu.
      2. Select the clock on the left-hand side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
      3. Select Report problem.
      4. Select Include or Don't include to add complete logs and diagnostics.
      5. Follow the instructions to submit your report.

      You can also quickly press the Meta button/ Oculus button on your right Touch controller five times in a row to open the bug report tool.

    Hi again furryfox334,

     

    Apologies we thought you were talking about the VR Chat application, if you have already attempted reinstalling the Meta Horizon app on your phone and it is still not working, if you are able can you try using another device?

     

     

  • I'm having a problem when I turn on my headset, it goes to get ready to load up, hits the pass through then the image sticks to wherever I look, screen turns black for 2 seconds the controllers then vibrate then it repeats its self over and over again, I can't even get on my headset now

     

  • As of the v83 update I found that my Quest3 no longer appears in the list of quick launch devices in Unreal 5.6.1 - I used to have Quick Launch -> Android -> Quest3. I'm still able to play VR Preview mode to it, even though it's not in the list. Wondering if a Meta XR plugin update is coming?
