Steam VR not launching in my headset (quest 2 )

I have been using air link to play PC games with my quest 2 for a while now. I used to be able to simply click on steam VR while using desktop mode in air link then the application will launch and I'm good to go. But now I cannot. Once I'm in the air link and I select steam VR it does not launch the application in my headset directly, I can see steam VR home on my desktop and I can even see my controllers moving. But when I look into my headset all I see is the oculus home and no steam application is being projected into my headset. Steam VR even says it detects my headset and controllers but it won't launch into my headset.

    So I JUST got mine working after deleting and reinstalling steam and trying everything else. What fixed it was simple. Open steam on your PC, then find steam VR app in your library (you can search for it in the search bar)

    Right click. Select properties. Select betas. Then in the drop down where it currently says "none" choose "beta- Steam VR Beta Update"

    You can hit the X after that to close the pop up window and then let it finish downloading. I then restart steam after force closing in task manager and BOOM steam VR finally launches in air link for me

    Hiya there Gabatron! We understand how not being able use SteamVR can be a huge issue. No worries, we can help find an solution to this issue. For some clarity, could you provide us with tad more of information: 

     

    • Are you only having this issue with that app? 
    • Have you attempted any troubleshooting steps? (Restarting device, using a different USB cable, using a different computer, etc.)
    • How long have you been experiencing this issue?
    • Make sure you have the basic requirements for PCVR
    • Have you recently installed a new updated your PC? 

    Once you have provided that info to us, we will be able to assist you further. We look forward to hearing from you!

      • "Are you only having this issue with that app?" | Steam VR is the only app I have trouble with, though since Steam does not work all games bound to it do not either. Steam games that give me the option to launch through Oculus mode do work. 
      • "Have you attempted any troubleshooting steps? (Restarting device, using a different USB cable, using a different computer, etc.)" | The troubleshooting I have attempted is: Restarting my quest, restarting my PC, and uninstalling and reinstalling SteamVR. I do not have access to a second VR-ready PC so I have not tried that and I use air link so I do not use cables. 
      • "How long have you been experiencing this issue?" | I have been independently trying to find a fix for a while so I am unsure of an exact time but my guess is 1-2 months. 
      • "Make sure you have the basic requirements for PCVR" | My computer meets the basic requirements for PCVR. 
      • "Have you recently installed a new updated your PC?" | My computer is running the latest windows 10 update.

      I just bought meta quest 2 after using some ooold not good brand name VR set for my steam VR games. That set albeit old worked perfectly. I bought meta quest 2 and apparently making it work with steam vr pc games requires a miracle. Not only is it not enough to plug a usb cable in and install a piece of software, at least the old set let me bluetooth it into my pc and use windows virtual reality. Your set is IMPOSSIBLE to use with pc. I had to pay and download virtual desktop to try to access my games and i am done spending hours on a piece of equipment only for it not to work on steam vr and even through virtual desktop where i was somehow able to start steam vr it didn't recognize controllers. For a newer piece of equipment you are losing customers as I am returning this set if I can't use it with my steam vr games.

        My Quest 2 is just plugged in usb-port in pc and it works fine.

        I don't need virtual desktop or anything else to play steam or vive games with the Quest.

        I don't know what's wrong and - sadly - I don't have a solution ....but usually it's working.

        Hope you can make it work somehow.

    Update: Using Virtual Desktop has fixed my issue. I can now access and play SteamVR titles as normal.

    I recommend using steam link it’s on the meta quest store and it’s free you launch steam or steam vr it you ask you if the app and detect the device that is running steam or steam vr and find your pc name and it will ask you for a code on your pc and it will show you the code on your headset and enter the code that your headset is showing and your all set your in steam link!
