Steam VR not launching in my headset (quest 2 )

I have been using air link to play PC games with my quest 2 for a while now. I used to be able to simply click on steam VR while using desktop mode in air link then the application will launch and I'...

    So I JUST got mine working after deleting and reinstalling steam and trying everything else. What fixed it was simple. Open steam on your PC, then find steam VR app in your library (you can search for it in the search bar)

    Right click. Select properties. Select betas. Then in the drop down where it currently says "none" choose "beta- Steam VR Beta Update"

    You can hit the X after that to close the pop up window and then let it finish downloading. I then restart steam after force closing in task manager and BOOM steam VR finally launches in air link for me

Hiya there Gabatron! We understand how not being able use SteamVR can be a huge issue. No worries, we can help find an solution to this issue. For some clarity, could you provide us with tad more of information: 

 

  • Are you only having this issue with that app? 
  • Have you attempted any troubleshooting steps? (Restarting device, using a different USB cable, using a different computer, etc.)
  • How long have you been experiencing this issue?
  • Make sure you have the basic requirements for PCVR
  • Have you recently installed a new updated your PC?

I just bought meta quest 2 after using some ooold not good brand name VR set for my steam VR games. That set albeit old worked perfectly. I bought meta quest 2 and apparently making it work with steam vr pc games requires a miracle. Not only is it not enough to plug a usb cable in and install a piece of software, at least the old set let me bluetooth it into my pc and use windows virtual reality. Your set is IMPOSSIBLE to use with pc. I had to pay and download virtual desktop to try to access my games and i am done spending hours on a piece of equipment only for it not to work on steam vr and even through virtual desktop where i was somehow able to start steam vr it didn't recognize controllers. For a newer piece of equipment you are losing customers as I am returning this set if I can't use it with my steam vr games.

    My Quest 2 is just plugged in usb-port in pc and it works fine.

    I don't need virtual desktop or anything else to play steam or vive games with the Quest.

    I don't know what's wrong and - sadly - I don't have a solution ....but usually it's working.

    Hope you can make it work somehow.

      First it wouldn't even see steam vr under oculus link apps so that had to be troubleshot. Then it keeps exiting my apps (crashing?) when i click on them. Then i buy the virtual desktop from them so mooore money, that one doesn't read my controls when in game. Then I spent hours researching and finally get steam vr to show up in apps but it also keeps exiting occasionally and when i do access it lagging/delay and zigzag graphics on freaking even home screen of steam vr make it unusable let alone when i started hellblade. My 486 back in the 90s could run more smoothly than this.

       

      I used s different vr set a year ago with the same laptop and the same game and it worked well. So, what is the only variable? Either the meta or the link cable but based on the amount of the same problems people have reported here snd on Reddit, I find it hard to believe it is not the Meta itself.

        You made really bad experience with that and I'm sorry for you.🙁

        And you are right ....there are many people outside having trouble with that.
        On the other hand.....there are also many, many people playing with Quest on steam without issues.
        So, I'm not sure about the reason why it works for some and other not.
