Hi I have some credit on my account and have been waiting for either a sale on Stormland or a discount store voucher that I get sent from time to time ..... however I did a search today and stormlan...
I posted this in games and apps but perhaps it is a support question. Has Stormland been pulled from sale permenantly or is it temporary? it is not coming up In a store search and using a direct link states unavailable.
I hope this is not something to do with Sony buying up the devs and a licence running out. if so a heads up before pulling would have been useful
would be nice from someone from oculus to post here about what is going on.
I am still betting on a temporary glitch, but if it has been pulled permemantly that sucks... this is one of the best "AAA" titles on the store imo..... I know titles get pulled sometimes but usually just before they go there is a heavy marketing campaign to let people know as well as a deep discount.... for instance i picked up Outrun and ducktales on steam for a pittance and a bunch of lego games were given away free (on steam once they are pulled you can still play them if they are in your library- tho that said it seems some are unable to even install stormlands even though they purchased it.
Again, my money is on it being temporary but yet again the lack of comms on it sucks and just shows how little oculus really give a toss about PCVR..... this after the oculus back end software install screw up followed by almost the entire pcvr platform being unable to install over most of the xmas period.
Not showing themselves to be reliable custodians of an exclusive software platform at all 😞 (sorry bit fed up over oculus lately)
thanks Ryan and note my angst in my post above is not aimed at you who I think is doing a good job. but this month has been pretty crappy for oculus pcvr users made worse as it covered the holiday period..... pretty shocked we have not had a mass credit award like when we went down a few years ago (for a much shorter time)
this month has been pretty crappy for oculus pcvr users
Even worse when Quest game sales are hyped but Rift game sales are very limited and hidden (no sale category on Rift web store, sale tab in desktop app is broken).
Which is odd when Quest with Link/Airlink is so popular.
just had a PM from oculus support , a reply to a PM I sent. it's essentially the same as one from Ryan above but it does say it should be fixed soon which would indicate it is a technical issue and not a deliberate removal from the store (phew!)
Seems like it was a glitch. I just tried, and I can see the "buy for a friend" option, and clicking the link, I can initiate a purchase. I didn't complete the purchase since I already own the game, but it was in my cart, with the final price showing, only needing my PIN to finalize the transaction.
thanks. I can confirm its back. got to laugh. support got back to me on the thread in games and apps. they really need to improve their internal communication and also learn the difference between PCVR and quest titles 😕
Agreed - my "Purchased" icon is back - all looks normal.
When I tell others that Stormland was one of the games that made my buy the RTX 3090 many think I'm joking. But I'm not - not the slightest. Stormland is close to my best-ever VR experience. Alyx worked perfectly using my GTX 1080, but Stormland was a different challenge.
Stormland is much more demanding than Alyx, in fact I'd say more than twice as demanding - and 90 fps were not possible with the GTX 1080, even with no real-time shadows. Those real-time shadows require quite a lot of calculations - but I was using Rift CV1 ss 2.0 and ultra settings - so real-time shadows were a pipe dream.
To my amazement, with the RTX 3090 I suddenly got solid 90 fps with CV1 ss 2.0 using ultra settings - and to top that I could even enable those precious real-time shadows! That was a dream come true for me - but I don't expect others to understand that 😉
Getting worried about Stormland, I just jumped in using the CV1 - and everything still worked flawlessly. I'm getting my as* *cough!" my behind kicked in this level - gotta get me some bigger guns 🤔
I just took these shots using the Rift CV1 ss 2.0 - ultra settings with real-time shadows:
Those hands look pretty awesome 🙂
A clearer view of the above image - no hand 🙂 The light looks very HDR-ish to me, who needs that PSVR2 lol
Some vegetation - and an awesome polygon count - and check the view distance
Maybe a boring shot - but there're very detailed real-time shadows in solid 90 fps 😁
This image didn't turn out the way I wanted - but check the background - the view distance is vast. See how extremely detailed the ground textures look? And those lovely flowers 🙂 Flowers and the grass have real-time shadows 🤓
I consider Stormland a great gift from Zuckerberg - no way did Facebook sell enough copies to cover the gigantic development costs. We should not ask for a reduced price on these games - even at $40 these games (like Asgard's Wrath and Lone Echo 2) are gifts and worth more than twice that amount. 2c.
Hi everyone, as bigmike20vt and RuneSR2 have already confirmed, Stormland is back in the Rift store. This wasn't related to some of the issues the team has been working with.
No such luck here. I find it odd/interesting the mobile app says "start" but of course doesn't connect to the PC app. No library as usual as it's a different problem still I assume.
I just spent the afternoon doing my own comparative benchmarks between Quest 2 and Rift CV1. My results showed a performance overhead of 2% to 7% for the Quest 2 on my PC, with less difference at higher resolution. AirLink versus tethered Link made little difference. I've posted a thread with my test results.
Edit: Regarding the 30% performance difference that Rune mentions--what we found was that Index does seem to perform better than non-SteamVR headsets through SteamVR (or at least, through the particular SteamVR benchmarking tool that was being used for the tests). Quest 2 performed comparably with other non-SteamVR headsets like Rift CV1 and Reverb G2, without exhibiting significant performance loss due to the streaming process.
The problem seems to be due to running through the SteamVR wrapper rather than through native Oculus drivers, but this wouldn't be a concern with Stormland, since it's an Oculus store game with native Oculus support.
