Hi I have some credit on my account and have been waiting for either a sale on Stormland or a discount store voucher that I get sent from time to time ..... however I did a search today and stormlan...
Agreed - my "Purchased" icon is back - all looks normal.
When I tell others that Stormland was one of the games that made my buy the RTX 3090 many think I'm joking. But I'm not - not the slightest. Stormland is close to my best-ever VR experience. Alyx worked perfectly using my GTX 1080, but Stormland was a different challenge.
Stormland is much more demanding than Alyx, in fact I'd say more than twice as demanding - and 90 fps were not possible with the GTX 1080, even with no real-time shadows. Those real-time shadows require quite a lot of calculations - but I was using Rift CV1 ss 2.0 and ultra settings - so real-time shadows were a pipe dream.
To my amazement, with the RTX 3090 I suddenly got solid 90 fps with CV1 ss 2.0 using ultra settings - and to top that I could even enable those precious real-time shadows! That was a dream come true for me - but I don't expect others to understand that 😉
Getting worried about Stormland, I just jumped in using the CV1 - and everything still worked flawlessly. I'm getting my as* *cough!" my behind kicked in this level - gotta get me some bigger guns 🤔
I just took these shots using the Rift CV1 ss 2.0 - ultra settings with real-time shadows:
Those hands look pretty awesome 🙂
A clearer view of the above image - no hand 🙂 The light looks very HDR-ish to me, who needs that PSVR2 lol
Some vegetation - and an awesome polygon count - and check the view distance
Maybe a boring shot - but there're very detailed real-time shadows in solid 90 fps 😁
This image didn't turn out the way I wanted - but check the background - the view distance is vast. See how extremely detailed the ground textures look? And those lovely flowers 🙂 Flowers and the grass have real-time shadows 🤓
I consider Stormland a great gift from Zuckerberg - no way did Facebook sell enough copies to cover the gigantic development costs. We should not ask for a reduced price on these games - even at $40 these games (like Asgard's Wrath and Lone Echo 2) are gifts and worth more than twice that amount. 2c.
I am still rocking the GTX 1080 and it's been ok. I am very tempted to build a new rig with a RTX 3090 but also am considering waiting until next generation. I think we will have a lot of announcements coming after the PSVR 2 announcement this year.
GTX 1080 isn't bad for the game, and ASW 2.0 is your friend for high levels of super sampling 🙂 Before the RTX 3090 I really had no clue what real 90 fps felt like in Stormland - that did not keep me from playing and greatly enjoying the game.
That's awesome. I look forward to experiencing next update. I hope these PC problems are fixed way before that. I hope the Stormland franchise can continue on PSVR2 at minimum.
Just beware with the Quest 2 streaming - we just tested Quest 2 and Index in OpenVR Benchmark, and using same res and 90 Hz the Index was a massive 30% faster (same rig tested, so same cpu, gpu etc - see the Index thread for details).
Maybe some think that 30% is a small price to pay for streaming - but it's an utterly giant price to pay. It means using the Quest 2, you may need a RTX 2080 to get similar performance as non-streaming GTX 1080 VR users. Or Quest 2 + RTX 3090 users may get similar performance as non-streaming 3070 Ti users - and over here the cheapest in-stock RTX 3090 costs $1,500 more than a RTX 3070 Ti - so cheap headsets using streaming may have giant hidden costs😉 Even a small 10% streaming performance impact would be totally unacceptable with the extreme gpu prices we're experiencing today. A RTX 3090 is only 15-20% faster than a RTX 3080, so 30% streaming impact is severe or worse. You can find several posts on Reddit describing profound performance reductions when going from Rift-S to Quest 2. In short, if you have a Rift-S in the closet, maybe a great idea to use it for Stormland, because Stormland will take all the performance it can get and maybe still ask for more 😉
is that just streaming or over the usb cable as well. if it's just streaming it is no Biggie, just a nice optional extra for games which don't push your rig ..and then the more computationally expensive games you play wired over usb. but if it is all pcvr on the quest then that is a bigger issue.
it would be amusing if my reverb G2 ran stormland better than the oculus quest
I have not seen that there's any great performance difference of using cable or airlink for Quest 2, so the streaming impact should be there no matter your connection. Streaming is a demanding proces requiring both gpu and cpu power - but I was surprised to see a massive 30% performance reduction in the OpenVR benchmark.
Cable should provide fewer artifacts and less stuttering though.
