Suggestion- Mata Consideration of buying the remaining assets of rec room to keep the platform up!

Meta has a unique opportunity to strengthen its VR and AR ecosystem through the acquisition and revival of Rec Room.

With over 120 million users and an already established foundation in immersive, user-generated content, Rec Room represents a proven platform that aligns directly with Meta’s long-term vision for social virtual spaces. Unlike building a new platform from the ground up, acquiring Rec Room would provide immediate access to a large, engaged community and a vast library of VR-ready experiences.

Rec Room’s cross-platform presence (VR, mobile, console, PC and once AR ) also presents an opportunity for Meta to bridge the gap between traditional gaming and immersive technology, bringing more users into its VR and AR ecosystem over time. With relatively small technical adjustments, the platform could be further optimized for Meta’s hardware, increasing headset adoption and overall user retention.

Additionally, Rec Room’s creator-driven economy aligns with Meta’s interest in fostering digital creators and virtual economies. Supporting and expanding this system under Meta’s infrastructure could unlock new revenue streams while empowering a dedicated creator base.

If Rec Room were to face closure, acquiring it at a reduced cost would allow Meta to preserve a valuable digital community while transforming it into a flagship social experience for its platform. This would not only generate revenue but also reinforce Meta’s position as a leader in the future of virtual interaction.

This is not just an acquisition opportunity—it is a chance to invest in an already thriving digital world and elevate it into a cornerstone of the metaverse.

  • If you want Rec Room to be killed entirely, this is a great idea. Otherwise, you want Meta as uninvolved as possible.

I don't want Rec Room to be killed entirely, so you are messed up, and also, that’s a fair point. If a big corporation won't save it without 'killing' what makes it special, then it’s up to us. That’s why projects like RestoRoom and RecUnited are so important—we can keep the game alive on our own terms. And I hear you—there’s always a risk that a big company could change the game’s soul. But right now, the clock is ticking toward June 1st, and the game is set to disappear completely. If Meta or another company doesn't step in, it’s up to us as a community to preserve it through projects like RestoRoom. I'd rather fight to keep the rooms open than watch them close forever. Have a heart, do your part.

Good point, but Rec Room has never made any money and is unlikely to do so. Meta is a business, not a charity. Here is one way to put it. If you were interested in buying an ongoing business, like a store for example, would you buy the one that has been losing money for many years.....or would you buy another one?, And why should Meta buy it, why not Steam, or Apple, or Samsung? Because nobody will buy something that won't make money. Nice rhyme at the end though. Was that on purpose or were you a poet but you didn't know it? 🙃

It's a great idea, unfortunately nobody from Meta will see this as it's just a user forum.. It's such a pity, that with all those users the company couldn't find a way to make a profit. I was really surprised when I saw this happening seeing as how many people are there. You could try writing to Meta directly. It would be a great addition to the Metaverse but as you probably know, the Metaverse is on the chopping block too, as they are changing direction towards a pure gaming platform with the coming demise of Worlds. It is unlikely that there will be a place for Rec Room to reside. I wonder if the users of the app got together and offered some kind of subscription service to the company would it help save it?
