Unable to hear Player Audio(Speech) in Horizon Central

I have a Meta Quest 3S and recently when going to Horizon Central to meet my friends I can no longer hear anyone speaking. I can hear environmental sounds and the background music just not when people are speaking. I do not know if anyone can hear me for sure except for the fact that when I try to communicate no one tries to reply.

I have tried to mute/unmute my microphone a number of ways with no effect. thinking it was my microphone stuck or glitched out but no luck there. It does seem like some people are talking to each other but no matter what I do I just can't hear them.

Can anyone help me?

  • I've been conducting some experiments and quite frankly the only conclusion available is not good, not good at all.

So just to set the parameters here, there is nothing wrong with the headset, the microphone works fine in other worlds and apps and I can hear other people speaking, they can hear me. There is nothing wrong with audio settings.

Now enter a SECOND headset, brand spanking new, just got from the store today. We setup a brand new account for it and Horizon Central works perfectly, we can hear others and they can hear us. Absolutely no problem.

BUT!! Factory reset the other headset and login with the same account.

Remember both of these headsets have been setup IDENTICALLY, same account, all the settings for both headsets will be the same, same internet connection, everything should be identical, but, on one headset we cannot hear what other players are saying, but on the other headset we can.

There is only one possible conclusion.

META HAS DELIBERATLY BLOCKED AUDIO IN HORIZON CENTRAL FOR THAT HEADSET.

Each headset has a unique ID so they absolutely have the ability to do this, and it is the only explanation that fits.

This is particularly scummy, now I have no choice but to sell the headset and get a new one, the unfortunate person who buys it is going to inherit the problem through no fault of their own. Nice one Meta.

Also it should be noted that Horizon Central has been completely removed from all listings. You can't even find it with a search. The only two references to it that remain seem to be the fixed portal you have in your personal loft area, or the entry in your library on the phone app but contrary to the fake information supplied by dannyk13 up there, ther eis no "Chat" icon in the upper left when you open it, I have no idea why he would give out totally inaccurate information like this. However, while the Horzion Central world appears in the phone app library, it DOES NOT appear on the headset library. Very strange indeed, Meta is doing something decidedly sketchy here. Maybe it's got to do with kids who are far too young being in there, running around shouting "6 7" everywhere constantly, using bad and offensive language, clearly having no parental supervision.

So, why would they block it for one headset only? Obviously there is a softer issue with it. Do you think Meta are out to get you? It is highly unlikely they would block your headset just to get 500 extra dollars from you specifically. If I were you, I'd invest in a tinfoil hat. 🙄

Same settings, same account, same internet, both headsets new, one really new, one a week or so old. Both factory reset. Boith updated. They should behave IDENTICALLY, there's no software difference, no account difference, no settings difference, nothing. So if they DO behave differently, the only explanation is a block on a specific headset, and it seems from this thread mine isn't the only one, so that rules out a hardware fault as it's unlikely so  many people just happen to have the same fault. So, if I were to speculate, I'd say it's Meta shadow banning the headset

  • I am having the exact same issue, I have checked all the settings mentioned in this thread and that Google AI recommended when looking up this issue and nothing is working. Once I enter a specific Horizon World, then there are no problems. But when in the main lobby accessed through the loft in the home screen, then I can clearly see that people are talking with their mouths moving and no sound is coming out. I can hear ambiance noise and footsteps but not anyone else. Hopefully this gets resolved with an update / patch soon. This is NOT a settings or hardware issue.

Try getting on your smartphone and open your Meta Horizon app, go into Horizon Central , in the upper left corner select the chat option and also make sure your mic is on there also, then go back into Horizon Central on your headset and you should hear everyone

What do you mean "Go into Horizon Central" it doesn't even EXIST in the app, search for it with exact words, there's nothing. So could you explain please, how you're supposed to  "go into Horizon Central" on the phone app when there IS NO Horizon Central on the phone app?

I have this exact same issue and abolutely nothing said in this thread makes any difference. This is a brand new head set, brand new account, no settings changed. We shouldn't be having to adjust settings from a new setup anyway.

  • I've just gotten the meta quest 3 this past week. I thought something was wrong with it until I saw others were having this issue

  • I have recently started to have this issue as well. I can chat and hear people in Big screen no problem. If i go into Horizon Central, people are clearly talking but I hear no voices. I only hear music and sounds. I'm not muted and i have everyone selected. I used to have voices without issue. But within the last week or so, there are no voices.

  • Yes, Ill explain, I can speak with them through a call. That's not the issue though. I'm unable to hear the general voice chat only on Horizon Central. I can hear general voice chat on other world apps like Pizza Kitchen and Super Strike and etc, etc. Just not Horizon Central general voice chat.

I am having the exact issue.  I c hear the music and the footsteps but nobody talking.  They can hear me.  I can hear calls and can hear people talking in games.

  • Check your Audio>Worlds Audio settings. There's a setting that switches between 'everyone' and 'just friends'. Change it back to 'everyone'.

--I've tried that and no change still experiencing the issue.

Apart from the Audio>Worlds Audio setting in your headset, while in the Worlds lobby, press the menu button on your left controller, click the cog wheel "settings" icon near the bottom of the Worlds menu, then adjust your in-game audio settings 🙂.

--I've tried that also no change still experiencing the issue.

Can you chat with your friends through the headset People/Chats app?

  • Update 2: I have witnessed others in Horizon Central communicating with each other and it seems their chat capability is working normally. Is it some setting on my headset? but how when I performed a factory reset and I am still unable to hear voice chat? Is it my account on the server? The headset says I do have the latest update is something wrong there? I'm not a software technician but I'm tired of spending all day spinning my wheels on this.
