Virtual Desktop not in library

Purchased Virtual Desktop from the store using the headset Horizon app.

Money paid and the app downloaded. Headset said latest software is required to run the VD which downloaded and the headsetset rebooted and updated controller software as well.

But I can't run VD because it doesn't appear in the library and nothing I've tried to sort this has worked.

Anyone know how to get the app to appear in the library ? it's the only app so far I've had this error with.

Some more suggestions my friend! One of these might help! 🤞🤞

    1. The Cross-Buy Trap (The Most Common Culprit)

Did you buy it on your phone or computer? Meta has two distinct stores: the Meta Horizon Store (for standalone Quest) and the Rift/Link Store (for PCVR).

Virtual Desktop is not cross-buy. If you accidentally purchased the PCVR version from the Rift store instead of the standalone Quest version, it won't show up in your headset's mobile app library.

The Fix: Check your purchase receipt or search for "Virtual Desktop" in the store inside the headset. If it shows a price tag instead of "Install," you accidentally bought the PC version. You can request an automated refund through the Meta Horizon mobile app and rebuy the correct Quest version.

    2. Search the Store Directly

Sometimes the main library database gets temporarily desynced and hides an app.

Open the Store app inside your Quest, search explicitly for Virtual Desktop, and click on it.

If you're logged into the correct account and bought the standalone version, the blue button should say "Install" or "Download" right there on the store page, completely bypassing the library glitch.

    3. Check the Account Profile (Dual Accounts)

If you have multiple accounts logged into the headset (like a secondary account or an old Oculus profile that didn't fully migrate to a Meta account), the app might be tied to the other profile.

You can verify your purchase history instantly by going to

    secure.oculus.com/my/orders/

on any browser to make sure the app is actively listed under the exact account you  currently use.

    4. Toggle App Library Filters

Meta loves to tweak the UI, and apps occasionally hide under different filters. In the App Library,  click the dropdown menu in the top-right corner (which usually defaults to "All") and change it to "Uninstalled" or "Not Installed" just to force the headset to refresh the list of owned digital licenses.

    5. Force a Sync via the Phone App

If it shows as purchased on your phone's Meta Horizon app but won't appear in VR:

Open the Meta Horizon app on your phone.

Go to your library, find Virtual Desktop, and tap "Install on Device." This usually wakes up the headset and forces it to start the background download.

If none of those work, a quick log-out and log-back-in on the smartphone app (or restarting the headset while connected to Wi-Fi) usually forces Meta's servers to re-verify your app licenses

You might have done this already, but have a look in the hidden apps folder, in case it's in there.

As you guessed, I've already checked in the "hidden apps" folder and it's not there either.

I don't understand how an app can download and then disappear.

I can't claim a refund because it must have downloaded else why would the headset say a firmware update was required ?

At the moment it seems I've paid for an app I can't see or use.

Just click on the magnifying glass (search) in your library on your headset and type "virtual desktop" 🙃.

  • Many thanks for all the replies and suggestions for a fix that works.

I've spent a while trying them and ......

In the store Virtual Desktop says "purchased"

I'm definitely using the correct account because there's only ever been just the one.

I agree with the point a firmware update is separate to running a software installer but in this particular case it seemed a bit of a coincidence the headset said it was installing new firmware just after I bought VD so I figured there had to be a link between the two?

OK, what finally got VD up and running was forcing sync via the phone app.

To be exact, I installed Meta Horizon app on my tablet and linked it to my meta account.

Virtual Destop app icon was present, clicked it and the VD page offered two buttons, "Gift" and "Launch".

I pressed "Launch" and Virtual Desktop started running in the headset.

So it seems launching from the tablet got everything in sync ?

Many thanks for all the help.

Maybe simply restarting the headset after the firmware update had done the same.

I figured the same thing so did try that first but it didn't seem to help.

Caveat .. I'm no expert so rebooting the headset may have fixed the problem and I didn't notice. For example, maybe the icon was now present somewhere in the list but I didn't see it ?

After launching from the tablet the icon was present right next to the settings icon when wearing the headset. Clicked the VD icon and hey presto virtual desktop appeared.

I admit freely I really don't understand what the cause of the initial problem was but relieved it's now working.
