  • The problem is even on the 'github' page it's just a bunch of back links to youtube videos. I DO NOT have the time to watch hours of content and I have never learned this way either, i learn by reading and then implementing.. When I have a specific problem I am trying to overcome I want to be able to search for it.

    Example:

Bunch of irrelevant videos that do not answer the question but if you scroll down Google AI is now using my blog post with the relevant answer:

Every creator learns differently, and that's ok. We have long heard a call from many creators to have a centralized location to access all of the produced video resources.

For some queries like the one you posed, the Horizon Creator Manual, which is part of the MHCP GitHub, contains a lot of specific details on systems within Worlds. In particular, this section on player locomotion

The MHCP GitHub has a mixture of linkbacks to mentor made YouTube videos, and created documentation. This is a community powered initiative, and we are encouraging creators to submit documentation to the repository to help everyone learn and grow. If you see a particular topic area that needs more documentation, please consider contributing.

  • I was trying to demonstrate the problem that you have, video is not searchable and even if you group them an actual 'developer'  is not going to sit there for 60 minutes watching something they can skim read in a few and dissect the information that is needed. If your only target audience is beginners then just don't listen to my advice. I'm personally an open source software engineer, I enjoy writing blog posts and teaching. So if I'm honest now I have had more engagement from my Perl and XS tutorials than I have on my Worlds ones, this is interesting when I thought my first love was dead but anyways I use 'dev.to' because they have an API I can then pull onto my own personal site, I have not looked but does your MHCP GitHub provide an API?

Times are changing...developers have started to relay more and more on video formats as well as technical guides, when it comes to their primary source to learn. This has been happening for quite some time now. Dont just take my word, check out Stackoverflow's developer survey findings.

Also, I think....(though it's very hard to tell based on the tone of your comments), but I think that your intention is to provide feedback to the Meta team, more specifically feedback to address your unique needs.  Which is hard to cater to every developer needs when it comes to learning. These two hubs to address some big gaps in learning is objectively truly remarkable for the team to launch. I personally found both easy to consume and useful.

LNATIONDEV - recommend submitting your content as a documentation, this would change the hubs in the direction you hope to see.

My tone was(3 months ago) one of frustration but I’ll still stand by my point that video is not searchable it makes it more difficult to find an answer to a specific problem.

Something I do really like though…is the remixable worlds concept. I haven’t remixed enough yet but I’m really looking forward to seeing the approaches of others. I have read a few of the new tutorials also and they’ve been useful!

I absolutely love the MHCP Creator GitHub!!!! I think this is going to be a fantastic asset to the creator community and will help so many that are new to developing here in Horizon Worlds!!! It is so organized and easy to find what I am looking for! I know this is going to huge a time saver for me as I will not be spending forever going to different sights to find this information!!! Thank you!!!! 💜
