All I can say is if you don't see the black bars on the 3rd ipd setting your eyes must be far back from the lenses. IE wearing glasses or your face is shaped that your eyes are farther back. Or you may have some peripheral vision problems, or like Nalex you're 72 or more IPD. You can see them when your eyes are centered looking straight. If you turn/move your eyes from the center they disappear. I always see them when looking straight at 69ipd.
