Help for Rift S

HI and thanks in advance.

New to VR and a little confused. Aftet using the Oculus Gear VR (with samsung phone) I thought I would get into the VR world and buy something better.
So I recently purchased a Rift S 
I feel let down though as the resolution,  clarity of picture  on the rift s doesn't get anywhere near the Gear VR

Question 
Looking at my GTX 1080 card resolution it shows 1080 x 960 30hz due to the monitor Im using at the moment. Does this setting affect the Rift S at all?

If my resolution and hz rating were set higher im graphics card would this create a better output on the Rift S

I have done all the Developer Debug settings. Setting pixel at 1.7  for example but to no avail. 
 Nothing is working


Anyone got a suggestion or answer??

    I never had Gear VR so can't compare, to me though the Rift S picture looks quite good.
    No your setting for monitor display does not affect the VR image, that is totally separate. Best to just leave monitor at it's native resolution.

    Usually adding some SS improves image clarity some , at the cost of some performance.
    I run my Rift S at 1.2 SS and like I mentioned looks pretty good to me.

    My Gear VR with my Qalaxy S9+ had a sharper image than my Rift S. But the Rift has positional tracking, and PC level graphics, making the Rift the far superior choice for me, despite the moderate loss of clarity.

    Unfortunately it may just be the headsets resolution. Since it has a 2560x1440 combined resolution, it should look fairly clear, and there's only so much you can do to increase visual fidelity. I found this out the hard way when I bought my Oculus rift over some other headsets and it looked significantly worse then said other HMDs, although it had a Higher screen refresh rate so I was okay with it. Also, the Samsung gear VR is a completely different device, it doesn't have to run the same games that a modern Gaming PC would, (it also doesn't have to deal with things like controller tracking, 6DOF, etc). So even though the resolution may be better on the Gear VR, the actual graphics may not be as good as something like a Rift-S.

    And no, your monitors resolution shouldn't have an affect on the Oculus Rift-S's resolution. It'd be very odd if it did. You can try fiddling with it and it may do something. Although they should be completely separate since they're almost like two different monitors (in a sense). 

    If the visual quality is extremely bad, you can try looking for GPU drivers & Oculus drivers, that may or may not fix your issue.

    You can always submit a support ticket if it's really bad, though I'd look into it more before you do.
