Because the Rift S doesn't go to fully Standby as simple as that.
For example, when I use my Rift S with my Laptop the fans goes crazy at full power.
after I put my rift S beside, the fans goes back to normal after 1-2 minutes, but here and then they go again to full power. Only by pulling out the rift S USB cable/connection from my Laptop the fans stays on normal mode. For me, it's clear that the rifts is not fully on standby.
Another thing, that also many have noticed, here and on Reddit etc.. the battery life is draining too fast, even without the use of the controller and even if the lights are off.
like @gcompc me too, I often plays only Elite Dangerous with my HOTAS and I also get a message that my brand new batteries were low. I did the test by taking out the batteries after use, and they really last longer now even with a complete week of playing Beat Saber.
