1440p Qnix is great!

So about a month ago I had an accident involving a jar of tiger balm and my 47" Toshiba 3dtv, that left my TV a $1300 paperweight. Considering the heavy costs of repairing large panel LED's and the fact that I really don't want (can't afford) to spend another K on something this soon after buying the Oculus and a new PC to go with it, I decided to opt for one of the 1440p Korean PLS panel monitors in the $300 range that I have been seeing all over ebay lately.
I spent about a week thinking about the decision, then after consulting my Wife and getting the go-ahead, I decided to take the plunge.
Considering how many reports there have been of people getting heavy amounts of dead pixels and bad BLB I did a lot of homework on which panel had the best ratio of risk to reward, and eventually settled on a seller that I figured had a pretty solid reputation.
The total cost of the monitor was just over $300 dollars and with free shipping I was very surprised to see that it arrived today, 2 days earlier than the tracking had called for and only 4 days after I had placed my order!
The monitor is a 27" Qnix Evolution II 2710 with a 2560x1440 PLS panel, and after a quick prayer to the Gods I hooked it up and discovered that it not only had zero stuck/dead pixels, but next to no back light bleeding, and the picture on this thing is AMAZING.
After getting my ICC profile setup and taking a few moments to enjoy the WOW factor of a few 1440p wallpapers I had downloaded, I set about to overclocking. I decided to go straight for the top and hit 120hz with no problems! (well, I had 1 problem but it was fixed so easily it doesn't even count ;))

:)

Gaming on this bad boy is unbelievably crisp, and the colors are just spot on; I couldn't be happier! At 120hz everything is super smooth; and with the extra screen space I have a lot of extra room for working in Maya and UDK!

Anyhow, I just thought I would let you all know that if you are thinking of picking up one of these monitors and you can afford to take a bit of risk, do it. (I couldn't afford the risk but I did it anyways).
A more well known brand name monitor with the same type of panel can easily run you upwards of $700-1000, so at $300 it's a steal.

Now in a way, I am actually happy I broke my TV!

  • I honestly prefer a 1080p 144hz monitor over the 1440p in terms of gaming.
But for pretty much everything else, 1440p and 1600p is the way to go.
