Not bad, even with interference they'd probably manage 20-30 gbit, probably depending on the level of interference.
Then again, has anyone seen any attempts to use some form of hdmi to optical to hdmi ?
If so, would it be a feasible option to copper connected hdmi ?
I have a feeling that the conversion from parallel to serial would probably put a bit of a lag on everything.
The thought is what the lag over distance is a lot smaller than over copper, so using this for data transfer to/from the oculus headset could possibly be faster than copper.
Yes, fiber is more brittle, this is true, but it can handle a lot more bandwidth over a lot longer distances.
The price would most likely go up quite a bit...
I was thinking about something like 1 fiber channel for in-going and one for out-going HDMI data.
Just to have said it, I haven't looked into it at all, just a thought.
EDIT:
http://www.lightware.eu/index.php/hdmi-3d-opt-rx150raThis looks promising.
EDIT2:
Holy *bleep*..
what a price... probably not...
