Achievements being lost in time

Just came across a news story from DARPA:

http://inhomelandsecurity.com/darpa-to-give-the-american-soldier-a-boost/

Basically robotic assistance to run a 4m mile. The link also lists the current official record.

Now, you would think that they would look through PT cards before they made the claim. In 2001, while stationed in germany, I ran an officially timed (for our PT Test), 2 mile in 7.5 minutes. I still have that PT card somewhere in my boxes.

At the time, sadly, I was more concerned about being "unknown" due to what I was looking to do, however, you would think DARPA would do some fact checking before releasing media articles.

GRR..

  • 2 miles in 7.5 min is 3min 45sec per mile. The record they list is 3min 43sec.
Hicham beat you by 2 seconds, so he's the one in the article.
  • tsch.. he was also in a human augmentation suit  One thing too keep in mind is that the next lap is usually slower than the previous lap.. usually. I can't give an exact time of what the 1 mile marker was as its not written down :\

i will say this though, he probably won't have have to suffer through knee, spinal, and neck injuries like I am in order to achieve that

Double olympic gold medalist Hicham El Guerrouj used an augmentation suit in 1974 when he set the record we are talking about?

(Note: I'm not trying to make light of your achievement, that's pretty damn impressive)
