ARAIG and Oculus?

goodie, the only comment made on this thread is just a troll. :( I figured this would be something people would be interested in since they get excited about the hydras, or leap motion integration...

peripherals for VR should be designed with VR in mind from the start imho... more so than software I guess

Their kickstarter funding goal is way too high they are not going to reach it. A somewhat interesting thought although there are others already produced somewhat similar. As well they integrated things that would be done better with other peripherals such as surround headphones with noise cancelling.

The device looks cool, but I think they were too optimistic with their goal.

That is most likely the case, asking for almost 1 million in support is alot. more likely we are supporting a business venture than a product made. Most funding comes near the last couple of days of the campaign. If they make it that is great, if they do not, well se la vie. They seem to want to integrate it with omni and other peripherals, I am wondering if they never thought of the rift as being an option.

I think there is a serious failure to understand that it wasn't a slick video that made OVR's kickstarter successful, but it was the endorsements from the old guard of PC gaming. Palmer didn't even ask for much and had modest goals.

I demonstrable product that had everybody who put it on dropping their jaws to the floor like kids in a toy store helped too. Making jaded adults speechless sold me on it as much as having my programming idols vouch for it.

They said in a recent update that they will produce it anyway, and depending on your backer tier, you will be able to purchase one either at your tier price, or at a higher reduced price.

Although they said the $299 tier was full, somebody vacated a spot and I grabbed it. Now a $299 backer, and when available I will be able to purchase one at that price.

Although not clearly stated, what they said sounds like they may have secured outside funding based on the kickstarter response. Even if the campaign fails, it succeeded at getting them advertising and media attention, and perhaps even additional funding.

They also have secret rewards for the more major funders. :arrow: me = :D

I had backed it early on, knowing that it wasn't going to make it.

They did have a good video. It was a little bit cheesy in the live demonstration. The project's goal was off the mark. I think where they missed it was marketing it outside of Kickstarter. Another project which had a good video but didn't have the old guard endorsements was (as much as I didn't like it) the Delta Six.

The Delta Six guy marketed very heavily. The hit up all the backers of their previous Kickstarter projects. They got their fans to spam every other related Kickstarter project (and I'm sure elsewhere) to drum up support. They added a last minute "Oculus Rift Compatibility" to try to draw in people. Getting people to donate $500 a pop for a modified stretch goal (which they fell $2k short of so they did not honor, even though they're accepting post-Kickstarter money). They were relentless. (For this reason, I was very happy when the project ended.)

I didn't see much from the ARAIG as it get people outside of their project, or really doing much to motivate things inside their project. A quick cross-promotion with Delta Six, and a quick cross-promotion with Omni. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't initiate either of the two. They just struck me as not very hungry for the Kickstarter dollars. Perhaps more for testing the water and the publicity?
