Are VR Prescription Lens Inserts Legit & Functional?

My eyes cannot tolerate contacts for long sessions. So I’m considering purchasing prescription lenses, but they’re not cheap. For my eyes, it can be more than $100, and it is the extra cost since I already have glasses and contacts.

I am concerned because they are customized, and I cannot return if it didn't work well.

Any one tried them before, how is it and any recommendations?

  • Yes they are legit and functional. I am using some now on my Quest 2 with 3D printed holders and lenses (single vision) from Zenni. I had to gobthis route as my diopter correction was outside the range that the company Meta was recommending could handle.

Provided you can get the adapters printed and depending on your prescription you can get the lenses and frames (discard) from Zenni for around $30 USD or less.

However since then I sound Reloptix which will handle my diopter and astigmatism for about what I paid for Zenni (higher cost for prescrption and higher index lenses) and getting the adapters printed. Reloptix gives you magnetic holders so lenses can easily be swapped out or removed if you share your headset.

Clarity and comfort the difference is phenominal. Being single vision versus progressives the sweet spot is much larger and I no longer have the nose and temple/ear pieces being painfully pushed in by the headset.

$100 seems pretty cheap to me. My prescription lenses for my glasses cost over $1,000 (but they are progressive+transitional lenses) 🤷‍♂️.

I just want to say anyone who thinks their eyes cannot tolerate contact lenses for long sessions. Get a new eye doctor or be more pushy with your current one.  When you trial a pair of contacts if you feel the contacts in your eyes at all or any discomfort or dry eyes etc....  then that is not the brand of contacts for you and you need to request another brand or type of contacts.  I didnt know this until a new doctor gave me a trial of the brand they were pushing and they were awful I didnt know contacts could be so annoying.  And he talked me into getting that brand and I regret it. The brands I do love I cant even tell I am wearing contacts. Its like its just my eyeballs and their is nothing on them. I dont ever feel my contacts which can become a problem cause sometimes I accidentally sleep in them a few days in a row and after wearing them 5 days straight then I start to feel them and im like oh crap I gotta take those out! A few times I wore them so long I got eye infections.. Oops... I stopped doing that now.   But thats how contacts should feel ... like you dont even know they are there. The brands I do love are air optics especially the hydraglyde ones. Acuvues are pretty good for me. But my crappy ones are apparently made by accuvue soo not all of the same brand is good. U just gotta find what works for you. Ok that is all... thanks to these crappy contacts I gotta find lenses for my occulus. ...lol
