Ah ha found it.

Watched walking dead last night in the rift. It was quite good actually.

A ceiling covered with lowdef zombie madness :o

Did you use VRcinema or something else.

I tried a episode of family guy in VRcinema and it was actually pretty good and in 3D.


The thing is I do get sick very quickly (soft in my old age) and I think its due to the screen tearing/refresh rate and low quality, its not to say I love it because I just dig VR in General.

I have actually played a game in VR about 10-12 years ago at Intensity at Parramatta (anyone remember that), it was the most high tech gaming in the country of its time and beat timezone hands down and I didn't get sick but I remember it being as heavy as all buggery sitting on your head.

I do love HL2 with rift, very awesome indeed and as soon as consumer model is announced for pre order I'm sold.

I used VRplayer. There was a very definite screen door but I loved it anyway. The only issue I had is that sometimes I wanted to be just a little further back from the screen. There may be a setting I haven't seen yet that sorts that.

I do like VRcinema but renaming all the files is a little pain if your lazy like me.

I have watched some Spartcus in the cinema and love it. No worries about the kids walking in on it. If I could just drag and drop files to play or select and open this would be my first choice player because of the ease that you can move closer and further from the screen.

I've played about 1/2 hour of Left for Dead 2 in the rift and loved that, didn't even notice the low res.

Day of Defeat Source was good but you really notice the res, the screen door really pops.

War Thunder is amazing being able to follow the enemy with your head but you are reduced to firing at the enemy light because of the res. I'm alternating rift and non rift so I get pretty and 3d head tracking turn about 8-)

All in all I know I'll be ordering the Consumer one the day it's released, earlier if given the chance.

I just need to get past the gee it's goods so I can have a crack at making something. I haven't activated my dev license yet because I want to get the most from it and I still scrurry from demo to demo like a kid in their first toy store.

Alright, so I'm in NZ.

I finally got a chance to order my Rift in the last day or two. I was under the impression the shipping would be very slow for obvious reasons, and that I'll just being joining the waiting game with everyone else who has an unfulfilled order.

My order is in the back end of 089xxx since it is a very recent placement. Its all been paid and accepted, and is sitting on Ready as it will for a while now.

The target shipping date was estimated for December on the order page, so mix that in with all the headaches Xmas brings to shipping, and I've just been assuming it'll arrive late December or early January unless anything happens in the meantime that delays things more.

I've been reading shipping topics and what not to get an idea for how long it has taken other people to receive the product. It seems in more recent times, orders are taking about 1-2 months from purchase date.

However, today I've been reading stuff that suggests orders are shipped in bulk to target certain areas of the world. Was this a misconception or is that how it works?

So my questions:

Is there any other catch or extra delay for ordering in this corner of the world?

Has customs been consistent in enforcing the duty fee? I've seen patchy reports that some have been made to pay and others have slipped under the radar.

Is the expectation of the Rift's arrival in late December to early January realistic? How accurate is the shipping estimate on the order page?

Gday, I think that expecting it in a time frame is a waste of your time, you just missed the AU/NZ batch by about a week so I'd say give it atleast 2 months before you get it.

So just play the waiting game mate, have fun.

I didn't have issued with customs here in OZ for my rift.

Also I think ill have to try VRplayer too.

So to clarify, shipping is delayed by region? Interesting... why is that?

It's how they do it.

It's caused all sorts of angst as you can see in the forums.

When there are enough rifts they send them to a region.

Some regions sometimes get a couple of shipments in a row. They seem to be the areas with lots of orders.

It can get very frustrating when you are hanging for your rift but there is nothing you can do but wait and hope. Reading the updates and making sense of them will just send you nuts.

I used some of my wait time downloading demos and even running them on a regular monitor to make sure they worked.

This may be bad idea because I think it may have made me even more impatient.

I prefer watching videos of games since you can sort of go along for the ride with them. About as close as you can get to the experience without trying it yourself I feel.

I think since I ordered with the expectation of months of delay, I won't feel too frustrated or impatient.We'll see how I feel in a months time lol. Something to look forward to at the very least.

Forgot to respond to this. I believe Australia is different and lets you get away with more expensive items. In New Zealand pretty much anything over a few hundred gets slammed.
