I spilled a coke in my PC ><It's my own dumb fault too. I spill things all the time and I should know better than to sit a drink anywhere near my PC. But I did. I went to stand up, hit my knee on the keyboard tray and the coke spilled directly through my top fan vents. Immediately the PC black screened. I (understandably) freaked out and yanked every cord out of the power strip as fast as I could. I had the whole thing unplugged in about 4 seconds but it's not looking good.My GPU was literally dripping coke out of it. My mobo was also covered. As were all of my drives. I took everything apart as fast as I could and washed most of it in a crazy amount of 91% iso(not the mechanical drives as if any liquid got inside they are rekt either way). Things are drying now, will be a while before I know.My guess is the mobo, GPU, 3TB, 500GB are dead for sure. 1TB and SSD maybe. CPU, PSU and RAM likely okay(if mobo didn't fry them). But yeah won't know for a while.So laugh at my foolishness and pray to the tech Gods for my rig. I know I was dumb and I can admit it lol. >_<I'm using a crappy laptop at the moment just to go online.Pics of aftermath:

I feel very warm inside. After sharing my story of my PC coke disaster, so many people offered to help me out. If I wanted to take advantage I could literally be swimming in hardware right now. Of course I'm not like that. My PC is still up in the air but I'm pretty confident it's gonna be okay at this point. If I were to take advantage of something like that then every time I looked at the hardware in question I'd hate myself. I could never take advantage of someone's kindness that way. People taking advantage is why more people aren't kind and helpful in the first place.But yeah so many people reached out to me and offered to help. The usual suspects of course. But also some people that I barely know and would not have expected. That kind of thing makes me feel really happy. It reminds me that the world isn't completely hopeless and that there are still more good people I haven't met. Just a few years ago I was convinced that the entire world was nothing but assholes and dicks and each day now I get shown how wrong I was. Oh, man. That is too bad. I spilled a little bit of water on my $100 keyboard a few months back and totally trashed it. It wasn't even a lot of water. I just went to take a sip and it wasn't all the way on my lips, and a little fell (but that was enough). After that a few keys just stopped working (sadly some keys that were in my password, so I couldn't login to Windows). But it was only $100 to get a new one.Also, maybe this is a good time to remind people about getting a good backup solution. I have this crazy overkill backup plan that secures a folder with all my files in like a half dozen ways. It's copied to a second internal hard-drive, and to an external drive with two different backup programs. Then I have 2 different cloud solutions that automatically backup the same data. Then, on top of that, for the most important code I have source control repositories. So basically 6 backups for the same data. I can't imagine that all failing at the same time unless it's the Rapture or something.

Hat will be consumed...Yes... it really works in it's entirety. At this point I've even put it through some stress testing and it seems to be absolutely fine including my drives and my GPU.I guess I had some serious luck @_@ I don't even know how this is possible BUT LET'S NOT QUESTION IT. The Gods are on my side. End of story.

If you need something to dry fast, put it in a box of uncooked rice. Sucks the moisture out like crazy. I've seen people using that for phones dropped in toilets many times.

Yeah I know it's quite corrosive, that's why I used so much Iso(about 5 liters in total). I don't drink alcoholic stuff at all(I really hate the taste of alcohol!) Generally I drink water or iced tea. But we had no tea.

I'm not kidding about me spilling drinks in here about once a day either. I should know better!

Unfortunately there is no way in hell I can afford to replace any of what got rekt. Fortunately before I even finished taking it apart my friends had offered to help me replace stuff. I was like "Chill out guys, we need to know what's dead before you start ordering stuff."

I'm happy that they would do that for me. Very happy. But I'm angry at myself. It's not their responsibility to do it. I know they are happy to and I know they love me but this should never have happened!

No more drinks in here. Period. Ever.

I told my friends that if everything and I do mean everything survives I will eat a piece of my hat and post a video of it to youtube lol. But only if everything survives. I'll totally do it.

I honestly think the GPU has no chance. I was gonna try to cop a 1070 when they come out(already been saving for it) and I still have my GTX 670 4GB so that's not the worst situation in the world.

The drives are kinda up in the air. I really can't tell if liquid got in them or just on them. The SSD is almost certainly okay. But the one I really need to survive is my 1TB. It's the only one with important non backed up data on it. Most of my stuff is backed up to my server by a script but there were a few projects on the 1TB that hadn't been added to the script yet.

The mobo had coke on it but it was in kind of an out of the way place, so I have hope for it.

The CPU, RAM, PSU were all completely coke free so the only way they'd be dead is if the mobo fried them.

All can do at this point is hope. I think tomorrow evening I can try everything BUT the GPU. But the GPU will need to dry longer since parts of it aren't as exposed to air.

If you put the hat in a blender with a little mayo and hit puree it goes down easier, maybe spread it on some bread.

Umm what in the last pick did you need the multi grip pliers for in your PC ?
Haven't seen a tool like that used on a PC since Voodoo card days.

@Zandil I actually use those to grip on to the end of the precision screwdriver(the one on the towel) so I can get more torque with it(for tough screws). Also useful for getting more reach with that same screwdriver.

What a bummer ! :s ... just soak everything in a bath full of hot salty water overnight and then put all the components in the tumble dryer on the highest setting... this will fix it ... NOT !!!

I've done the same but I spilt coke over my laptop keyboard, luckily I only had to replace the battery, keyboard and a fan. I've banned myself from any drinks on my computer desk since then :p
