Controller forced updates

Ok pardon the language but this is asinine.

i have the Quest 2, paired with a pair of Touch Pro controllers.  The idea that, in 2025, that the controllers can be upgraded by software is great.

But an update that happens on its own schedule, and ESPECIALLY without a visible progress bar to TELL you it’s happening is ridiculous.

I use my VR to workout, and I have a finite amount if time to squeeze said workout in.  To get my gear ready, turn on the VR, and have the controllers not appear is frustrating.  Then to not have ANY way of knowing what’s happening, and, even if i have a suspicion that it’s  an update and not have a progress bar (that is the default displayed in everything from routers, to game consoles, pc firmware updates and even 3d printers) in 2025, is downright embarrassing.

Sure, updates need to happen, absolutely.  A better and more congenial design would be to:

  1. Let users know an update is available
  2. Allow the user to initiate the download himself or herself
  3. Display a progress bar for each controller as it happens
  4. Let the user run the update at the end of their session (‘Cuz if the update is so critical and time sensitive, there’d likely be something wrong already and the user is WAITING for an update to come)
  5. Please DO STOP AMBUSHING THE USER

  • At least your's works. Their firmware updates keep bricking my controllers. My quest 3 went through 3 controllers in seven weeks. Now my kid's quest 2 controller won't pair with the constant firmware fails.
i have since disputed the purchase w/ my credit card since META has refused to take ownership of these damages other than the same BS that never works and the infamous "you warrant has expired but for $100 we can send you one refurbished controller"
